DALLAS — Several leading airlines have raised U.S. fares up to $20 per round trip, trying again just days after a smaller hike fell apart.
Officials at Delta Air Lines Inc. and United Continental Holdings Inc. said Thursday they had raised prices by $6 to $20 per round trip, depending on distance flown.
AMR Corp.'s American Airlines raised fares on flights during peak times such as Monday mornings and Fridays by $20 per round trip but didn't change fares at slower times, an American spokesman said.
A Southwest Airlines Co. spokeswoman said the carrier did not plan to match the increases. Southwest undercut last week's attempted fare increase led by United Continental when it first went along, then rolled back prices.
