44 RETIRE FROM COUNTY; POLLITT PROMISES CONTINUATION OF QUALITY SERVICES

Wicomico County Executive Richard M. Pollitt, Jr., announced today that 44 county employees have begun what he termed, “a well-earned retirement.” The departures were the result of a retirement incentive plan offered earlier in the year.

“As I salute our retirees for their many years of dedicated service, I am committed to maintaining a level of quality county services reflective of the resources that are available to us. However, our community must understand that four consecutive years of deep budget cuts totaling some $ 24 million cannot help but have a serious impact.”

Of the 44 retirees, 5 were department heads. Pollitt said that, as of today, the positions are filled with highly capable replacements. They are as follows:

Wicomico County Department Head Changes

Acting Director of Administration – Sharon A. Morris, Former Deputy Director (Theodore E. Shea II, Retired)

Acting Human Resources Director – Michele L. Ennis, Former Deputy Director (S. Michael Thompson, Retired)

Director of Finance – Andrew G. Mackel, Former Deputy Director (Patricia Petersen, Retired) - Subject to County Council Confirmation

Director of Emergency Services – David G. Shipley, Former Deputy Director (Sandra Silvia, Retired) - Subject to County Council Confirmation

Acting Director, Local Management Board – Diana Reinoso-Parnell (Linda Hardman,
Retired) 

Pollitt is preparing a restructuring plan to re-deploy county resources in response to the reduced workforce.  The plan is expected to be forwarded to the county council by the end of next week.

OMG! All five of these moves are disasters waiting to happen. Not ONE of them is qualified (of course three of the retiring directors were terrible too). If we have poor leadership like this to choose from, we are DOOMED!

5:58, maybe you should apply for one of the jobs since you seem to know so much. Take a hike rather than stay and be "doomed." The appointments look good to me; won't need to waste time on new hires. Now just don't replace these former assistants and this will look really good.

Michele Ennis will do great. She is driven and smart, unlike the previous HR manager who sat and watched his retirement account online everyday to see grow. Kudos to Michele. It is much earned. She has the education and qualifications.

These people are "government workers" all the way. Lazy, no innovation, status quo. We've had enough of that crap. Ennis isn't even respected in the office, neither was her boss. Shipley is a nice guy but that doesn't make him a manager. And, who would want to lead a sinking ship? 5:58 is right. Time to move on before it gets even worse. Anybody hiring?

andy will do alot better job than peterson who was asleep at the wheel along with shea for a long time.pollitt has really put wicomico county in dire straights by putting morris in this postion .i would say its the worst move he has made since he was elected to C.E. council really needs to look at this. anyone who cannot keep there own finances straight sure as heck does not need to tell ppl how to administer a 100 millon+ dollar budget

When will Gary Mackes be going? A waste of good space given to someone collecting a paycheck? Let's put someone in that position that can help the county, not hinder it.

3:15, You are so ignorant. Believe it or not, there are people in government that are driven and have innovation. If you work for the county, you should take a hike. Now that the county has shed so many good ole boys, it is time for morale to improve, and good people in line take the reigns. Attitudes like yours aren't welcome. Time for some change.

To 1st Anonymous (doomed) Unfortunately you do not seem to have a clue. Really need to allow the new 'team' to do their job. Each is qualified and capable. Apparently you have no idea regarding these persons abilities.
Hats off to Mr. Pollitt for a job well done.

Anonymous 3:15am: How can you be so judgmental when you apparently have no idea what you are talking about. Michele has excellent qualifications and work ethics. She is respected for her accomplishments (holding fulltime job; working on PHd)very well liked individual. Hope she brings new ideas to the county. Congrats to all. My only concern with the 'acting' is that it is all female, while males are up for confermation. Glass ceiling may not be the intent but it does appear that way. All persons seem very qualified. Way to go Rick!! you've got my vote.
