Two Press Releases From The City Of Salisbury

Grant Awarded to City andPhase One of Board of Zoning Appeals Database Development Completed

Recently the City of Salisbury was awarded the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) in the amount of $81,362.00.

Of the $81,362.00, the Salisbury Police Department will use their portion, $65,308, for network and server upgrades; back-up storage devices; desktop computers, mobile computers, and printers; and radar & laser speed measurement devices. The Radar devices are approximately 6-8 years old and the laser device is approximately 12-15 years old.

“This Department of Justice grant will ensure that Salisbury has the up-to-date equipment that is necessary so that law enforcement officers can respond quickly and timely to calls,” said Senator Benjamin L. Cardin, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. “Small communities often don’t have the resources that are needed for equipment upgrades and this grant will help ensure greater public safety for the residents of Salisbury.”

The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department intends to utilize their portion, $16,054.00, for network and server upgrades.

First Phase of Database Development for Board of Zoning Appeals Completed
The City of Salisbury has completed the first phase of database development for Board of Zoning Appeals records from May 1983 to the present. This work was completed by staff of the Salisbury-Wicomico Department of Planning, Zoning, and Community Development. This information was previously retained in individual paper files, and can now be accessed in its electronic format and mapped for numerous City purposes. According to Mayor Ireton, “the conversion of property related information into a form that can be readily shared and accessed by local agencies has been a key initiative of this administration. Continual improvement in record keeping and information sharing is essential to the functioning of City government. The update of 27 years of Zoning Board records is just one of many such projects underway in the City.”

Wow. I don't give Ireton much, but I have to applaud getting our behind the times SPD some current equipment and getting zoning records into the 21st century.

Remember when Barrie was going to shred everything? Stopped only because Debbie Campbell and Terry Cohen said "wait a minute." With everything going on in the city right now, a lot of those records could be very important.
