Absolutely not.
Safe enough for parents to carry them to the Centre, the movies,the Crown building, so safe enough to go to school. I am sure the school bus drivers were more cautious than their own parents

anonymous 9:54, You have been making that comment for days now. I'm confident those kids that were alledely where you say they were had been brought there, (if at all true) by SUV's or 4x4 vehicles, not a school bus.
No still had a foot of snow and ice on our road.
NO NO NO that is why the school bus didn't come down our road and left the kids stranded and didn't bother to call to say they weren't coming.
Of course. Stop coddling these kids. We don't only go out of the house in perfect conditions. So they have to walk thru a little snow, I had to, my parents had to, and my grandparents had to.
In the modern day and age, if the kids can't get to school, why not have some way to still give them assignments to do? They could log on to a school web site and get assignments to do while they are missing school.
Why can kids walk down the snow covered street to play, but they can't do this to go to school?
I still think the county did a crap job of clearing the roads, and many roads are still difficult, but when I was a kid, we had roads just like this and we went to school.

County Employee who still had to work in these hazardous conditions! I'm not complaining bc it is my job. But, the roads were not all safe for children on buses!! Most were yes, but not all!
Maybe those 4 x 4 and SUV's should have carried them to school. Yes, it is true because I went by Crown Sunday nite and the parking lot appeared to be full.
Yes. There have been just as many Cars on the roads as SUV's. Get over it! If you do not think that it is safe for your kids to get on the bus, drive them to school yourself! I doubt that there is a household with kids in this county that have not left their house since last Wednesday due to the snow storm.
Yes it was. All you have to do is slow down. EVEN ON ICE. This shows that we are closing the schools way too much when the roads are virtually cleared except for a few isolated spots.
Some roads are cleared enough for buses, some roads aren't. You have one lane on most of the back roads if you are lucky. Back roads are still in very poor condition. Most roads have banks of high piled snow on both sides making it difficult to even make a turn. One of the kids told me yesterday that the bus went up on a bank to make a turn and she thought they were going to turn over. Get off the main roads and see for yourself. Buses are not SUV's or 4x4 trucks.
YES I saw all the comments about bad school bus drivers and took my kids myself in my civic. NO PROBLEMS, so today they are on the bus which came 1 minute late.

I would like to hear from the bus drivers. My roads were fine but I have been on some back roads that were not fit for anything but a 4 wheel drive. Wicomico should have had their drivers to a dry run on Monday like Baltimore COunty did adnd report any problems.
If you feel the roads were unsafe to travel by bus then stop forcing my children to live by your fears and drive your own kids to school. Just laziness wheineyness. Take control of your childrens fate and drive them yourself but leave my kids education alone!
Ambulances and fire trucks aren't 4 wheel drive, but everyone expects them to make it down every road. I think the buses are fine.

I realy don't understand what I'm seeing. I'm originally from Maine, and have seen snow plowing thousands of times, but usually the plow blade is down on the road. Not here, I see plows with there blades 6" off the ground. So these guys are being paid to drive around and do nothing? And when the Mayor said, "it's to cold to salt" during that last storm I thought, where is he getting his info. In Maine they start salting at the beginning of the storm and its usually 1deg to 32 deg. Below 0 you cant salt but we were never near 0degs. These towns and counties need to get it together. Global Cooling is going to make winters here like they were in the 60's.

Emergency equipment such as ambulances and firetrucks are not in the same category as a bus full of kids. Hopefully the bus full of kids won't need the services of the ambulance or firetruck.
11:03 AM Leave my childs safety alone. You need to be put out on one of these back roads in a school bus and see how well you do. I do take my own to school but I understand the problems of people that live way out on back roads that haven't been cleared or only have one lane not even big enough for a bus to pass through. By the way when a friend of mines road was plowed (they live way out on a back road) they plowed most of the field and not the road. It was so bad they didn't know where the road was. I will tell her you will pick her kids up for school tomorrow. Thanks for your help. Don't let anyone tell you that you aren't a caring person.

You are assuming that all kids have access to computers and the Internet. This is not the case, otherwise it would be a good idea.

Would all of you who say kids should be on the bus. Tell my girl why she had to be out to catch the bus and call me form the stop because she fell on ice walking to the bus stop. Learing is important. I am just grateful the cars were not driving by and they didn't run her over. But still had to take to er now she is out of school with a sprained knee.She went to catch the bus and still ended up staying home. I should have followed my mommy gut.

Parents nowadays have NO interest in being involved with their children's lives until something disrupts THEIR schedule. Then they want to complain about what everyone else is doing wrong.
Take some responsibility for your OWN child and make sure they are safe. Don't sit there and blame BOE or the County or the City when you should just load up your child and drive them yourself. I'm sure if you wanted to go shopping or out to eat you found a way to get there!

5:43 PM You are missing the point. Some can't get there safely by car or by bus. Not everyone owns an SUV or 4x4 truck. Some people live 2 to 3 miles down a back road that hasn't been plowed. So who is to blame because the road isn't plowed and they can't get their child to school? You would be surprised to know that many of these people are very involved with their children. Their lives go around their children. Many haven't been off their property since the first snow storm. They aren't out eating shopping or playing. I guess we should just forget about their children according to you.

No not for city streets....I work at 7AM at PRMC so as a single mom, I can't take mine to school - I had to have my 7th grader walk his two younger brothers to Prince Street and then walk to his school at Bennett Middle...some of these people forget that everybody doesn't have a 9 to 5 job....alot of folks in my neighborhood work atPRMC or Gruman....
Why is it that with the other snows, all we heard was that schools should be open, now they are open, and everyone is in an uproar? I think some people just live to complain.
OK, you all need to be realistic. This area rarely has this type of snowfall, so we obviously don't have the expertise and maybe not even enough equipment to deal with it as they do on a regular basis in other areas. The county and city workers did as fine a job as they could. Was it great? Maybe not, but their efforts were huge. As to whether or not the roads were good enough for school buses, that depends upon where you live. Some roads were awful, some were o.k., and some were good. The complainers will whine if school is closed or if it is open; they'll whine over the makeup days in June, as well as any other thing they don't like. I don't know if schools should have been open or not, but I do know firsthand that the bus drivers were extremely careful, and we were all fortunate that there were no accidents. The Bd of Ed would have been slammed by many if they closed - it's a lose/lose situation. Your kids are your own, and YOU can decide whether or not to send them to school if you feel the roads aren't safe. Quit yapping and complaining and just do what's right for your family. Most of all, consider how ridiculous you all sound on this blog!
By the way, Mr. Albero, I think it's wonderful that you helped clear out driveways, etc. for elderly folks after the storm!
The answer is YES! Did any children get "injured" as a result of the decision to open schools? I don't see any reports of injuries, just a lot of "opinions" about safety. We got a lot of snow, okay, but it doesn't mean we have to close the schools until spring thaw. The same ones complaining now, will be the same ones complaining about having to make up the time during the summer. The roads are getting us to work and they are good enough to get the kids to school. It might take a little longer, but they'll get there. I think the county and state have done an exceptional job clearing 90% of the roadways, and the other 10% couldn't have been cleared and kept clear, unless they stationed a plow at the site and kept it there. Expecting the roads to be 100% clear, under the circumstances of 3 snowstorms in a row, is utterly unreasonable.
No! They must consider all roads and all children from around the county when making such decisions. Maybe you should do a bus driver survey to get their comments.
