Suspect(s): Darnell D. Waples, 26, of Colonial Lane in Milford, Delaware
Resume: On Tuesday, February 16th, detectives from Troop 3 in Woodside made an arrest in a child abuse investigation which was initiated on December 11th.
This investigation revealed a then 20-month-old boy was taken to Milford Memorial Hospital on December 10th for broken leg. Based on the nature of this injury, on the following day, the child was transferred to A.I. DuPont Hospital where further examinations were completed. It was determined the little boy had, within the past several months, suffered fractured ribs as well as other injuries.
It was determined that child sustained his injuries while in the care of his mother’s boyfriend- Darnell D. Waples.
Waples surrendered to detectives yesterday and was formally charged with Assault by Abuse or Neglect (felony) and Endangering the Welfare of a Child (felony). Mr. Waples was committed to the James Vaughn Correctional Institute in lieu of a $27,000.00 cash bail and ordered to have no contact with anyone under the age of 18.
The Division of Family Services was notified of this investigation.
