Let's Get Something Very Clear Here

Wicomico County has already stated that things are so bad RIGHT NOW that we will NOT feel the impact of TODAY until 2012.

OK, each and every one of you had better understand that statement VERY CLEAR. Do you understand what that means? Allow me to explain, for those of you who just don't realize how bad a pickle we're already in.

Income tax, property tax, EVERYTHING is on the decline. With the loss of jobs, with the reduction of property value, EVERYTHING will go DOWN, which means you will lose jobs, period. It means you will lose services.

I saw County Executive Pollitt on TV yesterday expressing his concern towards the loss of quality of life and services in Wicomico County as the Governor reduces funding. The Governor has already hinted there may be a $100,000,000.00 to $200,000,000.00 reduction in the budget AGAIN this year. I don't know about you Folks but I'm wondering just two things here.

Did someone or a bunch of people start winning the Lottery week after week putting the State in the hole with losses, I think not. My second thought is, if you raised the Sales Tax from 5% to 6%, where did all that money go too?

Anyhow, that's besides the point. My message in this Post is, if YOU think the County is NOT going to start laying people off in the near future, you're wrong! There's nowhere else to go. As much as it may pain people, my earlier Poll Post is vital as to who will get what and when.

I understand that many of the County Employees work during the day and do not have access to a computer during the day but believe me when I tell you, if you feel strongly one way or the other, you better get on here and voice your thoughts because I'm confident the County Executive AND Council are paying close attention to this Poll.

I just want to make it very clear to all of you, there will be job losses and there will be the loss of some services. These are harder times than our government wants you to know but let me assure you, (like I've been saying for years) put on that seat belt because the warnings are there and it's going to be a very rough ride. I will move the Poll Post to the top a little later today to make sure everyone recognizes it and says their peace.

Joe: Like most tax increases the sales tax increase helped to stall consumer spending and therefore the "increase" in sales tax revenue the politician expected never really occured...it was and still is a bad fiscal measure. The recession was already underway when the brain surgeons in Annapolis passed the increase.

It is particularly onerous for the lower shore given the proxmity of tax free shopping in nearby Delaware.

These people just never learn.Watch Obama do the same thing to pay for his healthcare bill...he'll raise taxes on the theory that it will increase revenue..when in fact it won't...it never does.

Yet they refuse to allow the public to participate in this discussion, by NOT holding their meetings in the full view of the citizens of this county and an out right refusal to change it.

Yup. Thank Bush. We still haven't felt all of his "work".

I agree. Get rid of those just sitting around collecting a paycheck. I work for the county, in a department where we interact with other departments. It is ridiculous how many people do NOTHING and get paid a lot for it.

We've already been told layoffs are coming. They are being evaluated on a department by department basis.

2:55 Bush did not control congress...Pelosi and Reid did. The spending is authorized there...not in the Oval.

Someone better start to begin to make hard decisions and straighten this county out!Get rid of the 2 at=large council positions.

So go to school and then get a better job.

You're never too old.

For way too many years. Government at all levels has padded its payrolls with needless people doing needless services. The real working people have been paying the bills through taxes.
As the famous racist preacher for Obama once said, "The chickens have come home to roost"
There is no more golden goose of producers in this country that the government can steal from anymore. The well has run dry!
Government MUST get smaller, and those displaced government workers MUST get jobs in the real world.
Isn't it cool how economic forces always seem to win?

The state and local governments have had their budgets based upon bubble valuations in property values and bubble-era spending.

Time to get real. Lay em' off and cut out all the frills and BS, including take-home cars, expensive out of town "training" and conferences and of course, taxpayer paid cell phones.

Let's not forget the golden retirement and health benefits. Private companies can't afford it and neither can the taxpayers.

removal of "cap" no doubt will be the next push...

I voted for the cap. I now would be in favor of replacing the current REVENUE cap with a RATE cap.
