Bias is now too passe for the folks over at the Daily Times. Making up stories out of whole cloth and openly colluding with the Barrie Comegys party, including SPD chief Allan Webster are now the rule of the day.
Historically, reporters like Laura D’Allesandro weren’t bold enough to simply make thinks up. Instead, they resorted to simply taking any quote from a Barrie Tilghman or Allan Webster and treat it as truth (even if they had proof of a lie). At least they could claim they were “just reporting the news”.
Now D’Alessandro has openly chosen sides in a war for the soul of Salisbury. She sides with the Barrie Comegys party.
Are we surprised? No. However, I am a little shocked that the Daily Times would print a manufactured story that is so easily disproven.

Laura D'Allesandro owes Debbie Campbell a public apology, short and sweet, an apology that she should seriously consider making if she intends to have any credibility whatever in the future. We've watched her writing progress over the past year and more, and have to say that, while we were initially encouraged, it has been going nowhere but downhill in quality and intention.
If she doesn't come up with stories that are actually well-written, truthful and researched, she may as well look at a career with no greater character or income than that she now enjoys.
There's room for this kind of journalism, Laura, but it's at the bottom of the heap, the bottom you should be trying to escape rather than wallowing in.
Looks like Laura D. won't be getting this year's journalistic integrity award.

8 years of chasing a smear story is deplorable. 8 years of chasing it when it has not/cannot be substantiated borders on slander.

G.A., I totally agree. I commented on the story and of course the comment was removed and comments were blocked. Not sure why the vendetta.
Its deeper than that, it could be criminal.
Mayor Jim Ireton could have stopped this little smear campaign months ago by simply replacing Salisbury Police Cheif Alan Webster. Given Webster's repeated misrepresentations of the crime stats, the culture of corruption he has fostered in the City Police Dept. in particular, and the City Administration in general; the new Mayor (Ireton) should have canned him as the first order of business.
It's really a "no brainer" to me.
I know this is a dumb question but, did your newspaper verify that any of these "documents" were written by the people the newspaper claims wrote them?
Maybe some enemy of the councilwoman's outside the government wrote this "Tyler letter."
Is this all for real, or did that newspaper pull a Rather? Remember how CBS had some big document and it later turned out to be all b.s.?
It's possible, maybe, just thrown out as bait?
Maybe the only ones lying here are the newspaper people.
I feel sorry for you people. Sky high crime, a crazy government and a worse than sorry excuse for a newspaper.

While replacing Webster may seem like a good idea, it doesn't mean that an acceptable replacement is near at hand. I don't know what Ireton's plans are but it would be foolish to replace Webster until he felt he had a candidate that was capable or that the Council would approve.
In the meantime, don't be so tough on the mayor for things he really can't control alone.
"Where the hell is Mayor Ireton? Has he resigned, or has he left town again?
I feel bad for the citizens of Salisbury. A corrupt police administration is really bad news. Guess they have consulted with their friends in Chicago.
Mayor Ireton should reach up into the sky and grab a pair.
Laura D'Allesandro does not seem very bright to me. Is she totally lacking in insight, judgement and logic? I see why her career has been with the Daily Times.

Speaking about the DT and their irresponsible journalism. I just read this article and noticed several mistakes. Anyone with the slightest knowledge of American History would know the mistake so it goes to show you that the editors at the DT are uneducated and post false "news." This is actually an interesting piece on our local history. Goes to show you just because something is in print and in the DT does not mean it it the truth. Can someone tell us what the mistake is?

For starters, 1865 was the last year of the Civil War, so she couldn't have settled in Richmond during the "remaining years of the war."
The Daily Times is a rag. They know nothing about any of the things they report on. That makes their writing show their ignorance.
