Business Closings Tomorrow

WBOC just announced they will no longer air any more business closings due to the weather conditions. That being said, let the real Delmarva's News Leader take it over and allow each one of those businesses to simply put their closings under comments here.

Way to go! What are they thinking...we do not need listeners! Another reason to visit this site for all your "news"

That is just plain stupid! People without computers rely on their local TV stations. What next... no updated weather reports or warnings?

Delmur high is closed tommorow. That automated message board is cool for SINGLE parents.

I noticed this morning that a certain beauty shop would be closed today? They are already closed on mondays. I guess that was a little bit of advetizing for nothing.

lmao...what better way to make the businesses unlock your website! In order to let their employees know, they have to post it here!

Isn't their new general manager from California?...guess they don't have snow out there.

Thank you Joe. As always you rock!!

For a shorter list, Announce who will be OPEN!

They dont want to anounce them closing because they are scared they might not re-open, this economy is out-of-control. Maybe the staff was just over-whelmed with calls, its been awhile. Or maybe the "Thing" has more POWER than we originaly thought,(shivers down my back bone). I hope not, I know better. Who do you TRUST in gen-pop.

Joe,

While many read you, the 'masses' don't always have internet...AND, believe it or not, many more don't know about this site.

Business closings should be listed in the current fashion, radio and TV. Always put the 'schools' first and cycle everything afterwards.

I know it's an ego thing, and many who know the site will check for it, but remember, lots still don't have internet, and without it, YOUR voice isn't being heard nor will they get the news you want to deliver to them.

These are the same folks who haven't gotten cable or satellite and STILL haven't gotten converter boxes yet.

The transition will come, but until that day, sorry Joe, your site cannot be the de facto source for business closings.

Smiles to ya!

Shows the far-reaching range of this blog. Comments, but not a single business utilizing this blog. I would think most employees would call, be called or notified via email if they didn't have to report to work, and customers wondering if a business they're going to visit is open would simply pick up the phone and make a call. Gee, think that may be why WBOC stopped including businesses on their crawl?

anonymous 7:57,

Putting up a comment like the one you just sent in seems quite strange. I mean, why not put your name to it? It's not a personal attack, yet you have something to hide. Like perhaps you're one of the Anti Albero Bloggers or even an Employee of WBOC?

What's the big deal. We have given any and all businesses an opportunity to provide such information if they so choose. If they do, good for them. If they don't, what's the big deal then anyway?

Just click on the "x" in the top right corner of this Blog and remove it from your favorites. Who need you anyway.

joe, your comment: "Who need you anyway."

Me not need you either. Ugg!

Oh PLEEEEASE! Give it a rest. I would prefer those who simply want to be here to biotch to go away. If you're one of them, see ya!

The silence is deafening.

Consider the number of comments you receive in a day. And the amount of time needed to moderate the comments. Now consider WBOC. Answering phone calls from businesses, churches, civic groups, schools, all calling to give the specifics of their opening and closing times, etc. And that their service area may be larger (?) than that of Salisbury News (or at least it has more name recognition, sorry Joe). I can see why they would choose not to post business closings. I tend to agree with 7:57. If you want to know if a business is open before you go, call.

Sorry 7:57 and 8:08 gotta disagree. They decided to do this one day and then decided not to list the businesses the next day. It's crap. It would have been better handled if they had said "Effective on 4/1/09, we will only be listing closings for schools and government agencies". Most companies in this area rely on WBOC to get the news to their employees. Most companies will tell you to listen to them. They should have given the employers time to change thier policies before they just threw everyone to the wolves this morning. I am almost 40 years old and this is how people in this area (especially those in the rural community) got the information. Not everyone owns a computer at home. The only reason I heard about it was cuz I happened to turn 16 on at the right time last night. I think businesses, especially those of us who advertise with them, should call and raise heck. It's crap. Very poor decision on their part.

I waited for almost 20 minutes yesterday to make sure our school was closed. I had to wait thru dozens of biz closings, most of which I had never even heard of. If an employee is depending on wboc to let them know their place of employment is closed and they don't go to work, then they AND their employer need to spring for telephones. No internet? Perhaps. No telephone???? Unlikely. For those of us who tried to call about the school thing, not all schools (Delmar High School, at least) had any kind of notification on either their outgoing message of their phone or on their website. Kind of disappointing.....

Oh please 11:09 give me a break. You saw all these other school districts closed you knew your school wasn't going to be open. There could be one flake of snow on the ground and schools around here freak out. Stop whining.
