I'm Sick And Tired Of The Walmart Check Out People (7-28-19)

Editor's note: This is not my video. This is of another person that had an issue with them checking the receipt.

Like most people, I hate shopping. I'm am an in and out kind of person. I know what I want, I go directly to those products and I'm out of there.

Yesterday I went to purchase items at Walmart in Salisbury, (North) and as I was leaving I was stopped and a person demanded I give up my receipt. I had just paid CASH for MY items, (no longer theirs) and I was detained and forced to give up my receipt. At this point they started checking every single item in my cart.

I am not only an extremely busy person, I don't have time for this crap and quite frankly I am NOT A THIEF. Of course every item in my cart was accounted for on my receipt.

I can assure you, the next time this happens there will be the biggest scene Walmart has ever seen and I recommend to every one of you do the same. What they are doing is illegal, they cannot detain us like this. The guy in Salisbury was a complete jackass and had no respect for my rights. Hopefully someone at the north Walmart sees this article and goes back to their footage from yesterday around 8:30 AM and watch me argue with this person. Walmart has no right whatsoever to do this to people and if it happens to me again I'm going to file a lawsuit, I'm done with this crap.

Illegal to stop you .... You should have kept walking.

Sorry for your inconvenience, but you are blaming the wrong people. Blame it on the SHOPLIFTERS. And no, I do not work for Walmart. I also hate to shop. Unlike you I don't mind showing a receipt. Just so you know, shoplifting causes your prices to increase. Have a blessed day.

Anonymous said...

Berlin has started this too. On the weekends, the line to be "processed" is so long. I just keep walking.

Now the older white gentleman at the North store is out of control! I witnessed a lady ask him if he suspected her of shop lifting, he said, no, she kept walking.

Anonymous said...

I do not have a problem with anyone checking the items in my cart or showing my receipt. I have my receipt ready & takes no time at all. Either abide by their policies or do not shop there. Use your anger to help change things that need changing.

Anonymous said...

You’ve never been asked for a receipt while leaving a store before? 😂 it’s not against the law for a merchant to ask you for proof of purchase before leaving the store with merchandise. They are not detaining you you are not being kidnapped...just show them your receipt and move on...

Anonymous said...

don't go to walmart

Anonymous said...

If this is an attempt to cut down on theft than they need more cameras and staff, it is not right to check receipts unless they have seen behavior that warrants it. They are not Sams Club and they also need to post this new policy it does slow us all down.

Anonymous said...

Just let them see your receipt and they'll give it right back, I don't understand people like you lol

Anonymous said...

Haha all the injustices in the world and you choose to make your stand with the poor SOB that has to stand at the door all day? GET OVER IT

Anonymous said...

It is their new policy to deter shoplifting. I believe it should only be done for people that use self checkout. Guess you will be going somewhere else because they are doing it at all Walmart’s now.

Mythoughts said...

But she was so busy and in a hurry
Altho I'm sure it took more time to not simply give the Receipt and go on your way.. instead u had plenty of time to argue but not show receipt.. smh.. some people I just dont get.. yes it is annoying.. I dont like it neither.. but there also other things I dont like at other place of business.. just dont go!! Its their rules.. and yes it a pain in the rear.. but arguing is more of a pain .. when we are adults and we should know when a rule is in place we follow..

Anonymous said...

All you need to say is "no thank you" and keep moving. You are correct, the contents of the bags are your items. Unlike, Sam's Club, BJ's, or Costco, you did not sign a member agreement (contract) to allow them to check your items.

--- The more you know!

Anonymous said...

It's your right!

Anonymous said...

This was a good article. Wal-Mart needs to give these people proper training. Don't just cut employees loose on the public that shops your store like this. No common sense policy.

Anonymous said...

That young racist idiot that works at the North store checks my receipt every damn time. He will watch us come out of a line (NOT self check out) and still want to see the receipt. If you are a person of "color" he will let them walk out and stop them. We had 2 gallons of tea at the very bottom of a completely full cart and he wanted to unload everything so he could "scan" the teas. I told him if he touched anything in my cart he might as well take it to customer service and give me my money back. How stupid can he be. LOOK at the receipt and see if the tea is on there. Don't unload an entire cart. I think it is stupid. They worry about people not paying for a single item yet you see all the time where people walk out of a store with a damn tv.

Anonymous said...

Just say ok and get on with life. You sound like the lady having a meltdown over her daughter's softball team last weekend

Anonymous said...

All of them are starting to do this because of theft.

I take my mother once a month shopping at the Cambridge Walmart and they do the same. They check receipts to make sure you are not walking out the door with something you did not pay for.

I know from working there part time, there has been a great deal of theft. This theft ends up getting passed on to the consumer.

I also hate shopping at Walmart. I go there only has a last resort if I can't find an item somewhere else. Yes most of the workers are rude and unhelpful.

The corporation treats the workers with indifference. It's all about the bottom line so workers and customers suffer and so does customer service.

Anonymous said...

I think it's great they stop everyone. I have no problem with it. I'm not a thief, and don't care. But if they stop one person shoplifting it is all worth it. Theft is one of the stores biggest losses. Especially employee theft.
Your anger makes you sound guilty.

Anonymous said...

They told me that they only need to scan items that were not bagged.
We always use self check out because the workers are so slow and only want to talk to each other.
Showing receipt takes 1 minute. So much other things to worry about in life.

Anonymous said...

Its bc of the WELFARE Crowd stealing WE all know who that is.

Anonymous said...

I’m sure the arguing took more time than the receipt check. Grow up.

Anonymous said...

NO it is not ok. When bags are put in my cart they are put in there in such a way that things don't get smashed. Cold items are in a certain area so they can go into the cooler when I get to the car. That numbnuts doesn't care what is in the cart or how he damages things as long as he can get to the bottom to scan something. The point is...just look at the receipt. There is NO reason to have to unload a cart so he can scan something that is already showing up on a receipt. Can he NOT read? He just wanted me come out of a line with a cashier...so I guess he doesn't trust his fellow employees either.

Anonymous said...

The guy recording thisbis your basic self-righteous asshole.

Anonymous said...

Not in Pocomoke. I've never had to show my receipt there.

Anonymous said...

Damn! Full of herself, isn't she? I have been checked several times when leaving Walmart. Sometimes the scan the receipt and a large item in my cart, and that's it. if there's only a few items, they might scan all of them. Self checkout has increased their loses at Walmart (imagine that!). I believe that the majority that are checked at the door are ones that checked themselves out at the register. Walmart doesn't have to trust PEOPLE to honestly scan every item they attempt to take out of the store. Sam's Club checks EVERY shopper's receipt. Illegal, I think not. She better have a lot of money if she wants to sue Walmart. I don't think ANY lawyer is going to take that case Pro Bono. I'm a 67 Y/O white male and getting checked at the door. So there's no discrimination going on, that's for sure. I'm not a thief either, but I'm not afraid, or offended by Walmart protecting their property from being stolen from the store.

Anonymous said...

"Of course every item in my cart was accounted for on my receipt."

This time, of course, or your story would be totally different, and you would be trying to explain how you "forgot" to scan some items checking yourself out. And "of course" you will "remember" to scan all your items the next time too, because you are aware of the check at the door. Why the complaint? Is she afraid she'll get caught stealing something? Walmart is too. I bet she doesn't trust everybody, so why should Walmart?

Anonymous said...

She'll never leave a Sam's club store with merchandise if she doesn't show a receipt. Rightfully so.

Anonymous said...

They usually only stop you if you have items not bagged...If items are not bagged they stop you.
They usually let me go by with a thank you unless I have a large item not bagged...Today in Salisbury the people in front of me had nothing bagged and stopped them and all my items were bagged so they let go with a smile and thank you.. They do this in Berlin too.

Anonymous said...

When asked if they can see me receipt, I say no and keep walking

Anonymous said...

July 25, 2019 at 9:59 AM:

Walmart doesn't trust the door checker either. LOL That's why he has to scan the receipt, AND the item in the basket. The scanner will determine if the item in the cart is on the receipt. He / she HAS to scan the item in the cart, they can't just see it. And yes, most people that steal at the self checkout registers will put their "free" items in the bottom of the cart. Walmart KNOWS that. Thieves just aren't that smart, although they think they can get away with it it they just act indignant enough.

Anonymous said...

THEY CANNOT DETAIN YOU.
ONLY SNOWFLAKES ALLOW THEMSELVES TO BE DETAINED.

Anonymous said...

To those saying Walmart can do this that is absolutely not true. They can only detain and ask for a receipt IF they have probable cause to suspect someone of shoplifting and there are multiple factors that must be met before they can detain. The only reason Sam's Club, BJ's etc can do receipt checks is because they are a club and their membership states receipt checks are required and failure to comply with the rule can result in membership forfeiture.

Anonymous said...

They can ask for receipts but it is within your right to refuse.

Anonymous said...

As another has said, this is only legal in membership club stores (like Sam's club) where you have signed a contract.

It is not illegal for them to ask to see your receipt, but it is illegal to require you to show it in order to leave the store. You are under no obligation to do so.

Now if they tell you they suspect you of a crime, and ask you to remain for law enforcement, that may be a different story. A law enforcement officer may ask to see your receipt in the matter of an investigation.

To all those who say why not just show them your receipt and stop being difficult. It's because our rights are being watered down more and more, and eventually we'll be a police state with no rights. Assert your rights! Know the 4th and 5th amendments! (the 4th and 5th apply to government and not private parties, but the concepts are the same)

Anonymous said...

If it helps keep prices down by discouraging theft, I don't have a problem with them asking. They can't, however, stop you if you keep walking. They need to be properly trained.

Anonymous said...

Good to know.

Anonymous said...

Last time I was there, there was a line to get receipts checked and I just went around them all and left. Nobody batted an eye.

Anonymous said...

Things like this shouldn't be a problem if you're not doing anything wrong. Just saying.

Anonymous said...

Starting to do this? They've been doing this at all the walmarts I've been to in the past 15 years.

Anonymous said...

Lol someone needs to get a life. Stating they check every single item is a total lie, they only check unbagged items. So put everything in bags if it's such an issue in your "extremely busy" life. Pathetic

Lbeach518 said...

I’ve shopped Walmart for years they have always checked receipts when you have bigger items or even checking out at other registers in the store. Get over it it’s how they can deter shoplifters

Anonymous said...

Sign of the times. That this is now happening in Sby is just more proof as to the crime ridden slum Sby overall is. I've never had this happen to me in a Walmart but I admit I can count the times on one hand I've been to a Walmart in well over 10 yrs and I tend to stay away from the ones in the slumy high crime ghetto areas like Sby.

There are plenty of other places to shop besides Walmart! Go somewhere that there is better customer service.

Retail receipt checks and Maryland law:

The Rights Of The Consumer
Shopkeeper’s Privilege is designed to protect retailers from shoplifting. But what if you’re not a shoplifter?

In the event of a receipt check, Walmart has not seen you conceal and fail to pay for merchandise, because you have not stolen anything. You are innocent of everything other than being randomly selected for a receipt check. So what does this mean for you, the paying customer, when a friendly face in a yellow vest asks for your receipt?

Well, you can do what most of us do and comply, thereby subjecting yourself to a voluntary search. But you can also say “no.” You can say “no thanks.” Hell, you can even say “hell no.”

Receipt checks are voluntary and if you’re not in the mood for one, it’s within your rights to be on your merry way.

What If You’re Prevented From Leaving?: False Imprisonment
If you decline the receipt check and the employee detains you or in any way prevents you from leaving the store, the retailer can be held liable for false imprisonment. False imprisonment is the illegal confinement of an individual against his or her will and is both a civil violation and a crime.

Anonymous said...

I just say no and walk away; For those of you that don't mind, let them check your receipt... But for those of us who do mind, that is our prerogative and we don't have to justify it, for you or for them... This goes back to the saying, if you don't like tattoos then don't get one, but you don't have any right to question why someone else hasn't also chosen that path...

Most of the problems in this country could be resolved if people lived their lives how they chose and stop expecting others to follow the same behavior... From religion, to purchasing from certain companies, to counter protesting; let other people be! None of you is ordained to solve all the worlds problems by telling other people what to do, when, and how to behave; start remembering that.

Anonymous said...

Get to know your door greeters, kill them with kindness and eventually the stopping to read your receipt will be in the distant past.

Anonymous said...

The irony is that I have seen many people in front of me get caught with unpaid items in their carts and had to go back and pay for them. How embarrassing.

What I do now is cover everything in some way with a bag and they don't ask to see my receipt.

Anonymous said...

This is not something new. Walmart has had door greeters that check receipts for years. Don't like their policy, then don't shop there. Thieves make things hard for everybody. i personally don't mind showing a receipt, it only takes a second, that is unless you want to argue and make a scene.

Anonymous said...

That's right, keep walking if you haven't stolen anything. They have no authority to stop or detain you. If the law is called, who's going have shit on their face, the detainee or the detainer?

Exactly. They’ve always done it now they’re being more consistent with it

Why is Walmart the only store that does this? I never get asked for a receipt anywhere else. Maybe they should hire more loss prevention employees. The ones they have that try to "blend in" are so obvious they stick out like a sore thumb. Do they asks for receipts when you leave Target? I have never been asked for a receipt when leaving Food Lion or Acme. Boscovs, Macys, Sears nope never been asked for a receipt when leaving those store either.

About 5 years ago I stopped at the Walmart in Georgetown to get a gallon of milk. Paid for it at the cashier and got stopped on the way out the door for a receipt check. Now, you can actually see through the white plastic bags but I guess the clown at the door thought I stuffed a large screen TV or something into this tied bag with a gallon of milk in it.

I haven't stepped foot in that store, or any other Walmart since.

The irony is you can go the the Georgetown PD's Facebook page and every day they have a picture of someone going out the door with a full cart of unpaid for goods.

Anonymous said...

Yes, you have the right to make Walmart detain you if they think you are attempting to steal something. But you better not try to steal something and refuse to show them your receipt. Walk out that door, and they WILL detain you if they have you putting something in your cart that isn't paid for on surveillance video. You will get arrested, and charged with shoplifting. Asking to see the receipt and showing it to them will exonerate you of any charges as long as everything is accounted for. If you have inadvertently missed scanning an item, and one of those cameras caught you doing it (all the registers including self checkout have cameras), then that receipt check is a second chance to avoid a shoplifting charge. Refuse the check and walk out the door...there are no second chance, even for an "honest" mistake. Think twice before complaining about your "rights'. A receipt check takes about 10 seconds. I think only the guilty would complain about Walmart protecting their RIGHTS and property.

Anonymous said...

Walmart has a RIGHT to ask, and you have a right to refuse. If they have you on camera putting an item in your cart without scanning it for payment, and you refuse to allow them to point it out BEFORE you leave the store, you WILL be detained and charged once you leave the store. It's such a little thing. Why do many complain about it? Maybe because some feel it is infringing on their "right" to steal.

Anonymous said...

Once paid and receipt is in your hand, it is no longer their products, so there for they can't demand anything... Let them try to bluff you by saying they will call the cops, let them... Cops can't do shit, Walmart can't do shit... Anyone who does, gets sued...

What is funny about all of this, is the physiological warfare they play with you people and you just let them... They have cameras, scanners and rfid devices and everything else to make sure you don't steal... This is just to condition you to SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS, when that time comes... Or to see who will buck the system if shit where to hit the fan as they say... Something will happen in our lifetime, no one can sustain being taxes to death like this...

When you people start to stand up and fight back, 99% of the time you will win and they will back down, that includes the govt... Even if you lose, you lost anyway so you mind as well fight back anyway to make it harder and harder, and time consuming and to waste their money as much as you can, when you start messing with their revenue or money stream, then they will react... Until then, they will keep on, keeping on doing the same crap they always have been ALLOWED to do, by you people who just let them...

Anonymous said...

I blame the shoplifters as well as walmart. every since they put the self check outs in the store they have to check what we have bagged our selves....

AND YES you can make this comparison becasue that is nothing short of what is going on here... You are being conditioned, and as the one poster said, thought it might not be illegal for them to ask, you don't have to under ANY LAWS, get that?????? Once you paid for those items, THEY ARE YOURS not theirs... Once the cops come and detain you, IT BECOMES ILLEGAL DETAINMENT moron... I love how you moronic dumb asses say just do it, just show your receipt even if you don't have to... You dumb asses will be the first to go, that is for sure... and I can't wait... While shit hits the fan, you will be out stealing tvs with no power to run the tv...

Noticed they do it more aggressively at north Walmart than fruitland. At fruitland they stop you when you have non bagged items, so when I use self checkout (so I can get home before the ice cream melts in the long cashier lines) I bag everything. The guy at north Walmart ended up putting a box of cat food on top of my bread. Even Sam's club isnt as bad as north Salisbury. Now I buy my bread and eggs at Food Lion

The north walmart has totally gone to the dogs. Shelves are bare for weeks at a time, This made 5 weeks that the Tylenol, Ibuprofen, etc. shelves wee bare. I ask a lady working that area, and she just shrugged her shoulders. Usually they tell you they are out at the warehouse, which is BS because the other walmarts have plenty of it. I don't think the north store has a manager at all, if they do, they need to fire his a$$. The food shelves are poorly stocked and out f the same items week after week and what little they have is so far back in the shelves, you have to look around for a tall person to reach it for you. I don't what what the function is of the big carts in the grocery aisles taking up space but they don't do anything except pick up an item now and then and scan it and put it back. Stockers spread out all over the floors with boxes who give you as dirty look if you try to get by them. The few cashiers that they do have, which is about 2, are so pissed off they can't force a smile or hello. I now go to Cambridge walmart. It's nice and well stocked. They also use more than 2 registers.

Anonymous said...

7:48
I have complained about the same thing for years. Shelves are never stocked. Out of the same things week after week yet a different flavor they have 5 rows that doesn't sell. I asked one of the assistant managers why they don't stock more of a particular product. Her answer was they didn't sell that much of it. What an idiot. They don't sell much because it is always OUT of stock. The pet food isle has gotten better but still always out of something. They have screwed up the Special Kitty canned cat food. Used to be the only thing my cat would eat. I guess they changed to a cheaper company to produce it and now the cats hate it. I used to order it online since it was sold out in the store...now the shelves are full of it. Horrible horrible store.

We have called Walmart North about this. We were told it is a REQUEST. You can say no. We were told employees checking receipts are not to prohibit you from leaving and they are not to follow you if you refuse. Unless they suspect you of stealing they can not stop you.Bottom line....KEEP WALKING.

They only check if you have unbagged items in your cart

Anonymous said...

General rule of thumb, unless they are accusing you of shoplifting, they can’t stop you or detain you or stop you from leaving, they are in the wrong by holding onto the cart and following you into the parking lot, which is where they should have called the police to make the accusation. but in situations where your drawing attention to yourself they’ll most likely ban you from the store, which is it a huge loss to be banned from Walmart? On the flip side they’re money hungry so that’ll never happen, who will pay for the door greeters or the 10 people standing around doing nothing while there are only 2 lines open. If they would focus on better customer service they wouldn’t have to worry about checking receipts because they would be able to be proactive and track it in the store like 99% of other retailers. Besides most shoplifters conceal items in purses, back packs, or baggy clothing, are they going to try to frisk you next or check your purse?

Anonymous said...

Just keep walking. Unless they saw you take something, they cannot stop you and definitely will not touch you, if it offends you that much.

Anonymous said...

What they need are escorts at every check out to walk with you to the door. I agree with the OP. It offends me to no end to have to stop and be checked.

Anonymous said...

What's your problem? This is common practice in many countries. Looks like liberal derangement syndrome. Everything is an outrage. Calm down "bro". Takes 2 seconds to see that your UNbagged goods were paid for by checking the receipt. Instead, you caused a scene and berated two polite people that are working for peanuts.

Northwest Woodsman: Shopping at local,Walmart’s here is rather pleasant. Clean stores, friendly, helpful clerks and well stocked shelves. Don’t like it that most of their items are produced in China, but that is the case with almost all consumer products today. I attribute our situation to a total lack of a demographic element that is infamous for their shoplifting. I have seen them stuff a package of pork chops down the front of their pants and have prosecuted many caught on video using various methods to conceal their theft. Your problem is with the caliber of the customers and people hired by local management.

I frequently shop at Walmart and if there is one thing I have noticed in the last 90 days - it is they have increased their prices tremendously. Case-in-point, I used to get deals on (6) packs of 20 oz Cokes for $2.50. Not anymore - they are now $3.68. I use to also get deals on other things like Cherry's at $1.89/lb. Now they are $2.99/lb. And Cheer Wine drinks for $2.50 a 12 pack and they are now $3.48. I could go on and on.

I tell them no each and every time they ask for a receipt. You do not have to show them it. Do not be intimidated. Tell them no and go about your business.

The only place you have to show a receipt is membership places like Sam's CLub as it is in the terms of service and you agree to it. You can still choose not to at Sam's Club but they can terminate your membership.

I don't give one single iota about Walmart, its theft problem, or it's employee job requirements or stress. You will not see a receipt or check my bag without detaining me for theft, calling the police, and then having me sue should you be incorrect. It is that simple. And no, having a black man posted at the gate with extra attitude isn't going to change a single thing about the situation and only open you up to further lawsuits if that person should so happen to break street over being told no. It may not be what you like but it is objective reality and how it is going to be. The end.

You are exactly right. I am sick and tired of going in there for items I need and them not having it. The other day I had to get a different type milk because the type that I usually get was gone. There weren't even any paper plates. The last two weeks the Wet Ones have been AWOL. I'm sick and tired of going to that Sh!thole.

Protect....so you mean assume everyone is a thief? Sounds like you would make a great owner/manager. You don't punish the many for the few.

Welp, thanks to the publicity, expect WallyWorld and other retailers to post signs and edit their receipts, in small print, to say that by choosing to shop in their store, you agree to show your receipt if asked. You don’t have one? Merch doesn’t leave the store.

I don’t get what the big deal is. If it keeps costs down and people employed by controlling loss, I’ll gladly show my receipt! (May not be the best job, but any paycheck is better than none.)

The big deal is that I resent being stopped at a gate like a thief and I will not do so. If you think I stole something then have security detain me and call the police. If not then move out of my way. The police need probable cause to do a search and Walmart does too. Anyway how it is going to work is the submitizens will be at the door waiting to be searched while looking like dopehead shoplifters while the citizens will laugh and walk right on by. You do you booboo.

To me the recipient checkers spread disease. Do you realize how many germs they encounter in just a few minutes? Nope just walk by them.

Nope! I know Walmart is getting robbed blind but it's not my fault and I'm not a thief so I would appreciate it if they stop assuming I am. They need to come up with a better way. To all of the people that say, "Just do it, what's the big deal?" Well, feel free!
They placed self checkouts there because it would save them the expense of having to hire a cashier for every line. 7-10 cashier lines are closed most of the time not matter how busy the store is. Walmart is not that much cheaper by the way. Getting to where I'd rather put more money in Bezos pocket than Walmart.
. . . and yes. . . I'm shopping there less and less.

Since walmart gets away with it, then I can call police on you suspecting you of stealing the car you drive to prove you bought the car.So really your saying that everybody is guilty until proven innocent.WHY DONT YOU READ THE CONSTITUTION OF THE U.S. DUMBASS
