Belated Thanksgiving greetings and an early MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Wanted to see if you would ask your audience if they had the opportunity to move out of Salisbury/Wicomico County what are some of the top places they would relocate to ??

Been just over a year since I relocated my family to South Dakota. Love it out here. Great people and schools.

Costa Rica. There are large, safe communities of expatriates maximizing their retirement funds. Health Care is adequate and the pace is that of Margaritaville.

After a few days hiking and camping in Skyline Dr., I love to spend a few days in Lurray, Va or Front Royal. Beautiful area, less than 2 hours to many metropolitan areas too.

If I had the money I think I would like to try out Friday Harbor on San Juan Island in Washington.
I visited there four years ago and it was a magical place. You have to take the ferry to get to the mainland and so I think it is just a different way of life. The island is beautiful and very community oriented. Most businesses are locally owned and very limited chain stores or restaurants. The ferry system was amazing and
well run.

Anyplace in the Southwest

As remote a location as possible so I'd never have to see another human being again. I hate the human race.

Let me know when! I spent my summers as a child at my grandparents house in that area. My grandfathers family was kicked off their property so that they could build the skyline drive. There is nothing about that area that I don't like, ok maybe all the hills to drive up and down in the snow!

Northwest Woodsman: I think 12:12 has discovered paradise just as I have. We relocated to the Pacific Northwest 11 years ago and have nor regretted one second of it. Beautiful scenery mild climate, great fishing and the crabbing puts Maryland to shame. Dungeness crabs are plentiful and four times the size of a blue crab. One crab will feed two persons easily. Another advantage and one of the main reasons we relocated here is that it is a homogeneous community with 0.01% marauders and there is so little crime it is rare to hear of it. The city of Seattle is full of Marxist democrats as well as a substantial number elsewhere in the state, but on the whole it is very conservative when you go to the rural areas. I really avoid leaving the island whenever possible and with Amazon.com it is quicker and easier to acquire goods than it is to shop like at a mall or other undesirable locations.

12:20-They built it 80 years ago as a means to preserve the area and provide work during the depression. I'm sure it sucked for some, but the benefits was for 100's of millions of people. Many were allowed to have lifetime rights or were relocated, not merely kicked out. My first trip is in March when the park opens, my last is the middle of October when it closes.

Anonymous said...

Certainly no where in MD. Salisbury is just joining the ranks of all the other cesspools in the state.

Anonymous said...

Already there! Wild and wonderful West Virginia! Just make sure it in the northern half of the state! Great place to live.

Anonymous said...

We are heading to Oklahoma

Nope not relocated, no lifetime rights. The foundation of their homestead can still be found at Big Meadows. My great grand father *other side of the family* helped to build all those rock fences you see on the drive. Still a nice place but they did a lot of people wrong building the drive.

126, BIG BIG taxes in that township. There is a huge school tax on top of your property taxes. A lot of friends located there from Jersey, because it is still cheaper.

1:13- You are correct. I was wrong. Apparently, all the literature one can get about the drive, on the drive, has been white washed. Here is what I was referring to, found in a small soft back book bought at one of the waysides.
"Nearly two dozen elderly residents received permission to remain in the homesteads under a life-tenancy status."

I just read up on it and though many were squatters, there were over 200 owners who were offered very little for their property, due to depression land values, among any other reasons the gov't stated for ripping off the land owners.

My bad.

Statesvile, Ashville, N.C. area. Not to cold or hot. Beautiful area. Good people. Minimum wage still below $8.00. Lots of areas where they renewed the old buildings. Not tearing down everything like here.

Top places that most of the people I know moved to are Northern Virginia(DC area on Virginia side); Atlanta, GA; NYC, NY; Austin/Dallas, TX and Baltimore, MD.
Before people ask yes the people who moved to Baltimore like the place better than Salisbury.

I am from Salisbury and we landed in Daphne, Alabama about 6 years ago. Great school system....NO SNOW....love it down here....

Eastern or Central North Carolina or Western South Carolina.

Those areas are doing well and the taxes are lower and the
winters are less severe.

Most of my Eastern Shore friends and relatives have already left this area.

Born and raised here and my ancestors go as far back as when we were a British Colony in the 1600's.

This is no longer the land of pleasant living and the crime and violence here is getting worse. I have already made improvements to my home to put it on the market to sell it. Plan to move away from here within the next five years.

Hopefully heading to AZ in 2020. Folks there are from all over the US, very welcoming. No 10% MD inheritance tax on my hard-earned assets for extended family members when I die. Economy is booming. As a former Salisbury resident, it’s obvious what’s coming down the road for this area.

Anonymous said...

I would much rather live in a red state with less regulation and lower taxes Fla, Carolinas or Texas. Had to send my kids to private school because the Md schools suck! I would leave tomorrow if not for having a well established business.

Best thing I ever did was to move out of Maryland.

Girdletree said...

6:03- Wow, what crawled up your obviously largest orifice? You should know, no one likes spelling Nazi's on blogs, especially something fairly innocuous as misspelling Luray, a town, not a misuse of grammar, so deal with it.

Secondly, it is easily inferred that I wouldn't mind living there. Who else here has specifically stated locations and did not elaborate further that is where they want to live. They just list the place and why. Why are you singling me out. You can easily deduce that they vacationed there, which is 99.9% the reason for their posts. Sorry there wasn't any emojis available to portray my post, so you would actually be able to understand my obvious appeal for the place, traveling there every March through October. Sorry if my response did not please you, so much that you felt it necessary to troll my reasonable post to this thread. I feel sorry for you. Taking the time to hate like this shows this is your hobby.

Girdletree said...

6:03- Also, not once did I state the word vacation or vacationing. Just another debunk to your ignorant trolling. My remarks were no different than the others. It looks like I triggered you. Go find your safe place, snowflake.

Fenwick Island, Bethany

Girdletree said...

1:13- Those rock fences were mostly constructed by the Civilian Conservation Core. I think that is what they were called. I don't doubt your word, but they were constructed after the land Conservation to meet with the automobile and not the traffic before. I have seen many of the old homesteads and the cemeteries, most notably at the base of Little Devil Stairs. If your great grandfather built those rock fences on the drive, then he should have been paid $25 a week, I think. That was the payment for labor there at the time, which wasn't bad during those times.

Girdletree said...

4:57- I know, right!? Someone here on this thread has obvious issues with my choice, though.

Girdletree said...

6:01-This thread has found its troll!!

Girdletree said...

6:01-This obvious failure of procreation, likes to take wholesome American locations, innocently suggested by loyal readers, and attempts to skew the posters as idiots through assumptions and assuming of having a deeper understanding of the comments left than the actual poster. With his low IQ he thinks his ignorant posts, single handedly marks you and I as stupid. My question is, what is his ridiculous motivation and gain? Why the desire to hate so much? I can only attribute that to a sad and pathetic existence.

Girdletree said...

6:03- Times like these, I love freedom of speech, for calling out idiots and the like. Especially, calling out idiot Democrats, like yourself. Your affiliation is obvious based on the hilarity of your trolling response!

Compared to what? Big taxes compared to? You go bashing Bethlehem but then state that NJ is worse so why even open your yap?

At least it is not ghetto there. And they have culture. Festivals, plays, sporting events, concerts, REAL farmers markets and an actual thriving downtown, not this f'in joke that jake has created, not $hit ghetto festivals like they have here - like grilling chicken in the mall parking lot.

So define BIG.

And your jerk friends killed the real estate market for the people that actually live and work there. Back in the late 90's the NJ jerks flooded the market fleeing the toilet state of the US and jacked up the price of housing.

Been there done that. Lived there and loved it much much more than living in this $hithole with your 20 hour joke of a festival, a cement pad you call an amphitheater, your money pit of downtown that is nothing but bars and your ignorant rainbow crosswalks.

Funny...Girdletree. We tried to do how Girdletree got it's name. Had several trees we wanted dead. So we chopped the bark off all the way around on them all to cut off the flow of food up the tree as it said.. And into the trees about 2 inches. 5 years later....they are bigger and better than ever. Just no bark around them in about 10 in areas around the trunks. It doesn't work.
Chain saw will do it now.

Lower taxes? Texas has no state income tax but they are able to get your money other ways.
I left there three years ago and my local sales tax was 8.25 and the property tax on a 200,000 house is now over $4000 a year. Plus if you live in a metro area you need to take the tollways to get anywhere faster and that takes another bite out of your wallet.
I did not move because of the taxes but was happy when I returned to the Eastern Shore to know my income was not going to as much tax as in my former state.
