Ryan to House: ‘An Attack on One of Us Is an Attack on All of Us’

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R., Wis.) delivered a speech to the House of Representatives praising the heroism of the Capitol Hill Police and calling for unity across the aisle following the Wednesday shooting at a congressional baseball practice.

The attacker, who police identified as James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill., opened fire at Republican congressmen who were practicing for the bipartisan charity baseball game, wounding five people including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.).

Ryan said that the House was "horrified" by the attack, and was "praying for those who are attacked and their families."

"We are united. We are united in our shock, we are united in our anguish. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us," Ryan said, receiving a standing ovation.

Ryan thanked the first responders and the Alexandria, Va. Police Department, and accentuated his respect for the Capitol Hill Police. Two officers, Special Agents Crystal Griner and David Bailey, were injured in the attack.

"And I know this House wants to state unequivocally that we are, as ever, awed by the tremendous bravery of the Capitol police," he said.

"It is clear to me, based on various eye witness accounts, that without these two heroes, Agent Bailey and Agent Griner, many lives would have been lost," Ryan said.

"There is one image in particular that this House should keep. And that is a photo I saw this morning, of our Democratic colleagues gathered in prayer this morning after hearing the news," said Ryan.

"We do not shed our humanity when we enter this chamber.. for all the noise and all the fury, we are one family. "

Big Family when a tragedy happens, but sure as hell can't pass a damn budget - EVER!!!!! All talk - ZERO action Ryan. Nothing at all Mr. Pretty hair!

Isn't it so great how they can come together when someone gets shot in the hip for all of the criminal activity they do as a politician, ruining other peoples lives for money, yet they can't come together to make America a great place??? God damn you people are so stupid and brain washed...

Now lets see all the anti-gun legislation to start rolling in, like Virginia stopped pro-gun legislation mere hours after this happened... Makes you think ti was all planned...

Funny how they always want to go after your guns, hmmm Hitler did to, and I wonder why!!! So you can;'t fight them when they come for you... but you people can't see that, becasue you didn't see it in the media that lies to you...

Just like how the VA governor lied about 93 million people a day getting killed by guns... That is impossible, that would mean in 4 days everyone in the USA would be dead, EVERYONE!!!!! We only have 300 million here in the USA...

Ryan exploited the situation to make himself look important. It he really wanted to be important, he would get off the dime and do the work we sent him and his colleagues to do, instead of taking off for the month of August. He's a poodle figurehead without any gumption to do anything for real.

822 rhetoric like yours is exactly why the incident went down yesterday which led to this speech. Might be a good idea to tone it down. They're watching for this kind of talk everywhere now. Good luck to you!

lmao at 8:25 tone it down? appears to me it's the looney left that should be toning it down. We suffered through how many years of obummer, bill the rapists, the idiot bushes and we all went about our daily lives. Now when someone who won the election comes in to clean house the whole establishment goes nuts. now lets take a long hard look at who the idiots are spreading this hate and discontent! liberalism is a mental disease!
