GOP Lawmaker: Congress Members Need Concealed Carry Following Scalise Shooting

“If this had happened in Georgia, he wouldn’t have gotten too far,” Representative Barry Loudermilk says

Republican Representative Barry Loudermilk is calling for lawmakers to be able to conceal carry firearms in the nation’s capitol following Wednesday’s shooting at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia.

The shooter, 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson, a vocal progressive activist, opened fire with a rifle on GOP members before wounding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and four others. President Donald Trump announced shortly after that Hodgkinson, who was shot by police responding to the incident, died after being taken to the hospital.

Analysis of Hodgkinson’s social media presence revealed the shooter to be a member of numerous anti-Republican groups including “Terminate the Republican Party” and “The Road to Hell is Paved with Republicans.”

The Congress directs what DC can and can't do since it is a Federal District.

If they want to enable concealed carry for DC they need to pass a bill and send it to the President for his signature. Not complicated but requires backbone.

Conceal/carry FEDERAL law. Eliminates 50 different variations.

Sounds soooooooo simple....impossible it will happen in this day/age.

Anon 908 AM: This is pretty much what Congressman Louie Gohmert (R-TX) said this morning on Breitbart Radio. He said (I'm paraphrasing), "We cannot be expected to carry a weapon unless our constituents can" and that "all members of Congress if they have a CCW permit in their home state, should be allowed to carry in DC. Not meaning the capital building but the city itself since they majority do not have security details and that it would be unaffordable to supply 537 members of the House and Senate with security details."

or Bernie, or McCain.

This is why a permit is required for all. To screen out the persons not qualified. There is no way some of those senile people could qualify on the range or other requirements. Imagine some of those losers with a weapon. I really do feel their pain though.

I thought that they already did have CC permits.
