One of the greatest American muscle cars in history will cross the block at a Mecum's Kansas City auction in March: a 1968 Shelby GT-500KR Fastback.
Yup, the one with the 428 "Cobra Jet" engine.
That's pure American muscle right there.
In a collector car market dominated by eight-figure Ferraris, a black Shelby Mustang is a welcome relief. An every-man's hero. A Budweiser in a wine bar.
The auction house does not give a pre-sale estimate. However classic car insurer Hagerty sets a value for this model at $146,000-184,000 in good to excellent condition.
Have a closer look at this stunning ride.

Yuck... Camaro all day.
If a person does not care about matching #s there are limitless options.A Shelby conversion kit is available for the late 60's and early 70's Mustangs, and a Cobra can be built for around $50,000.Even an expert cannot tell the difference unless he pops the hood and investigates thoroughly. That's how us po people do it.For the mote discerning tastes there are always the originals to be had for a fortune.
