Hardly a dying breed. These men are the most disciplined the U.S. Army has to offer. Many soldiers try out for this assignment as they do with S.F.A.S or Ranger school etc. It is the best of the best and most want to be exactly that. It's what make all our soldiers who and what they are. American.
I think what 11:49 is saying is that with Obama being commander and chief the military itself is a failing part of our nation. I'm surprised he hadn't dressed them in pink or rainbow colors.
When I was on an assignment to the Pentagon in 1972, I lived at Ft, Myer in Arlington where the Old Guard is based. These are some squared-away troops. They were (and still are) a real inspiration.
Please, folks, whatever you do, please don't call us heroes for what we do here. It's what we do, it's what we chose to do, it's what we're deeply honored to be able to do and we're humbled by the responsibility and trust that's put on us.

God bless them
a dying breed
I proudly served in the Honor Guard in 1967-1969. Maybe I was chosen because I was a registered Republican, someone they could trust.

Truly exceptional men, each and every one of them!
Blizzard or no blizzard, these men will not leave their post, no matter the weather. The best of the best, love them.
The Old Guard and an Honor guard at two hugely different beasts.

"Discipline" with a capital 'D'.
That is what's missing today in our society.
