1,336 Americans renounced their U.S. citizenship, according to a quarterly report by the Internal Revenue Service
Between January and March of 2015, a record 1,336 Americans renounced their U.S. citizenship, according to a quarterly report by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) that was published in The Federal Register.
The list includes long-term permanent residents who are considered American citizens under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPPA), the IRS noted. The previous record was 1,130 in the second quarter of 2013, according to Treasury Department data.
A record total of 3,415 Americans renounced their citizenship last year, according to the “Quarterly Publication of Individuals Who Have Chosen To Expatriate.”
In a survey conducted by the University of Kent between December 2014 and January 2015, 1,546 U.S. citizens and former citizens were asked why they no longer wanted to be Americans. Survey participants stated that high taxes were the primary reason for renouncing their citizenship. But the survey also found that contrary to popular belief, income was not a key factor in their decision.

that's 90thousand. and people do it every year. ever ask yourselves why?
Need to deport felons.
I hate when American's get offended that we do not like America. It is blatantly obvious that this country has major pitfalls. Of course there are worse options out there, but realistically America has the capacity to be so much better than it is. Why do we not have free health care like numerous other countries? Why does 1% of our population hold the most wealth? Why do we continuously get screwed by our government? I love this land, but it doesn't mean I have to agree with the way we live. In all honesty, if you do agree, there is probably something wrong with you...
No matter what. This is still the greatest nation on earth and I am proud and thankful every day that I live here.
I'm sure they are all kook liberals.

The U.S. is ranked 20th in the world now. Hardly the greatest country anymore, if ever. There are worse places but there are also better places.
That is there personal option I hope our tax dollars don't have to support them

and you base that on what? stop watching tv and learn to think
Most of you never ask critical questions or bother to think. You just go along with whatever you are told. Wave a flag in front of you, show you a badge, give a speech and say whatever it is you want to hear and you go along with your lives like nothing is wrong. Ignorance is bliss truly. That's not an insult just a description. I think you need to look below the surface of what you are told and believe, and look a little deeper.
