Wow are your certs and still only at 40 something a year. No wonder you wrote book. Look at your counter parts with less certs making more! Bet that pisses you off. You seem passionate. That's good. Unfortunately most of your coworkers feel this is a get the money and run deal as they have given up on the children.
To much waste in this county period. And if any one of you teachers can honestly look at this list and say everyone on there deserves that pay your all liars. You know there are some who don't deserve what they get.

Anonymous said...

How much do you all propose a teacher make? The amount of complaining is unreal. Wicomico County is a high tax county in a high tax state. Teachers, nor other county works are to blame. When you have a stagnant local economy taxes are bound to go higher and higher. Education and other county services have to be paid for and the base is not growing to help cover that cost. Take just a fraction of the venom spewed on here and ask your leaders what in the hell is being done to bring some industry to this area! If businesses are continuing to go everywhere but Wicomico County, your taxes dollars will be spent however the hell the powers at be want them to be, because they don't have much to work with. Obviously this stirs people up and that's great but look deeper and ask the real questions. Teaching is no easy task I'm sure. I mean come on...the majority of you commenting are parents....

I like how you say wow I want that job. Sounds like you're so unhappy at what you do but hey teachers went to school to be that...you chose your profession don't get upset about the profession of a teacher, their time off, and salary. Im so over it.

Anonymous said...

If this is the mentality of a fellow middle school teacher then you obviously shouldn't still be employed.

Yes, this is already public knowledge. All the distribution of this does is tick people off because they have their own preconceived notions with respect to educators. My wife has been in the teaching profession for 7 years, has her masters +30, is a professor at SU and still makes a forth of what I make on a yearly basis (if that). You folks have no idea the crap that is put on any educators lap during the day/year. The starting salary in Wicomoco is roughly mid 40's, which is crap. If you guys are angry with the folks that make above 60k, then realize those people have been in the profession for years. The problem with education is the union and the non-performance accountability that is put in place and the notion that they are overpaid.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said. I am a former Wicomico County Public Schools teacher who took a $10,000 pay cut to be in private school. For those of you suddenly "jealous" of the salaries that teachers make in Wicomico County... by all means, apply for a teaching position in the county. There are plenty of openings.

I am appalled by some of the mean and hateful comments made towards teachers in this county. I recently obtained my teaching certification in MD & DE. The salaries teachers make in this county is a disgrace! Joe, please publish the salaries for teachers in neighboring counties along with class size so readers can compare. I currently looking for jobs for the upcoming school and I will not be applying to Wicomico because I can work in another county or in Delmar, Laurel and Indian River school districts making more with less headaches.

All those viewers who are hating on teachers. Please go ahead and earn a college degree; pass the PRAXIS and sit in front of 25-30 students with every issues you can imagine and transform them into outstanding citizens. How many of you would? I did, after years in corporate America and the public sector (corrections). Teaching is so far the hardest and most underpaid profession in this county. A corrections officer with a GED makes more than a teacher in this county.

I can solve the problem that teachers work many hours after school. If they are unable to complete there work on there planning at there salary have them go year round and they can get there work done during the summer. To the ones that complain working after school they get paid for the most part as much as 30.00 an hour. Now lets discuss out of town activities sending teachers out of town for a week for a conference the meal rate is way out there. You think there salaries are bad it goes deeper than you think. There are so many bad teacher it is sickening. I am on the list and I don't care.

I am an Instructional Assistant III. Believe me, I would gladly give up some of my benefits for more pay! I struggle and struggle to stretch my paycheck. Only to end up having to rob Peter to pay Paul!It is true that I have what seems like a lot of time off. I would even give that up to get MORE money. Then to have to go to a job where some kids are mean, cuss you out, hard headed, will hit you if you don't watch out, etc.! You just try doing my job on my salary! It's easy to say we get paid a lot when you're not having to put up with someone else's child who has NO home training!

Enough of the crying about the students behavior from the teachers. You liberal idiots are the ones that KEEP voting for more liberals in the government. You know the ones that took God and accountability OUT of everything. The ones that think time out is better than beating their behinds when they do wrong. Now you can sit and fester with what you have created. I have no sympathy for any of you liberals and the mess you have created!

Second I'm sick of hearing you complain about having to spend your own time and money on school things. How many people in the real working world have to do the same? I know we spend hundreds each year on tools and such so that we can make a living. Not to mention all the safety gear that is required now by you liberal idiots. Oh this also doesn't count things that we bring home to do at night so we are prepared for the next day at work.

You have created most of the mess youj complain about. SUCK IT UP. The world is not perfect and is even worse since you all came along.

So much hating in this county no wonder businesses, professionals and our youths are leaving this county in record number and wicomico county is now the heaven for drugusers, pimps and convicts. No one wants to live here. any youth who wants to make something of themselves after graduation leaves, Wicomico County is a cesspool were no one with a brains wants to stay. Retirees are heading to Delaware and the South.

Joe,have you noticed that all the county teachers posting here are avoiding the "elephant in the room"-alternatives to public schools such as home-schooling or private and/or parochial schooling?
It's not the teachers fault that public schools suck, its our government.I don't particularly want my child in a classroom with juvenile delinquents whose utter lack of respect is labeled as "special needs" so the parents get a fat check and the schools get even more.I don't want my daughter at risk of being raped in school because they let guys OVER 18 repeat the same grade several times and they are shuttled from school to school because they have an ankle bracelet. It's up to responsible parents to make sure their child is safe at school and are being instructed rather than sitting around being coached on how to pass MSA testing,or waiting for the teacher to get the kids with behavior issues to sit down and shut up.
I am guessing they are scared because they see the writing on the wall.Enrollments will decline and Federal funding will dry up and people will finally see the failure within.

If you are not a teacher than you cannot speak about their profession and what you think you know about it..just as you cannot speak about any other profession if you do not actually have personal experience in it. Shame on those of you putting down teachers who have dedicated their whole lives to children and education. Are they supposed to earn minimum wage? I am a teacher, fairly new, and I come from a family full of educators. I have heard SO many stories from these family members, some good some bad, many things that most people do not have the patience, dedication, or integrity to deal with. However, they keep at it because like most teachers they love what they do and want to make a difference. Do I think some teachers are terrible? Absolutely! Are some doctors earning 200,000/year terrible? absolutely! There are ignorant people in every profession, but to say that all teachers are overpaid is not only untrue but really disrespectful!

I sense many posters are jealous of these talented, educated professionals that have worked hard to earn their salaries and benefits.

Anonymous said...

I think its atrocious that these salaries were posted.

The lowest paid food service workers who work very hard lifting food boxes standing on there feet and cooking and preparing to feed the children. Who are starving.Something wrong with this picture.

These teachers served my kids very well.
Both of my kids are in a prestigious universities and graduated Parkside with honors.

To 10:01 Poster -

In case you haven't noticed - our educational system is a failure.

Bottom line - education is suppose to translate in overall success for our society resulting in an abundance in employment opportunities, better jobs, raising the bar on living standards through increased earnings.

Have you taken a glimpse of our nation recently? We now have 70% of our country not even holding a job. The cost at Harvard is $53,000/yr and a graduate that comes out in app. 3 years is saddled with over $300k in debt. China has jumped-out in front of us in GDP, India is chipping on our heals, Germany is setting all time production records - while America has lost virtually all of its manufacturing.

Admit it - our educational system has been broke for quite some time.

Joe this article has bubbled up a lot of passion from teachers and Wicomico residents. Let's hope both sides burn up the phone lines at the Board of Ed which is where the all of our problems with the schools originate. They're the ones inept at running our school system. This conversation between the Board and us and our teachers needs to take place. Thank you Joe.

I hope you realize that teachers are taxpayers as well. Furthermore, I've never met a single one who supported their tax money being wasted. A lot of money could be saved in our county without even touching a teacher's pay.

Education begins at home

Anonymous said...

We need private schools and put an end to the public school nightmare.

Anonymous said...

No. It is NOT their take home pay. My name is on the list. I don't take home anything near what is listed once taxes are taken out.

Anonymous said...

I know of one of these teachers on the list that is showing they make over 70,000 a year, have no kids to pay their expenses....and yet they live from hand to mouth each month. Can't even pay their bills on time which makes me wonder what are they doing with all their money? I live on just under $30,000 a year and pay all my bills on time. But I also do without a lot of things to keep that commitment of paying my bills; whereas when I see the names of several of these teachers who are always crying the blues that they don't make enough money. If I made $70,000 a year with all my health benefits paid for and a comfy retirement looking at me, I would be happy as a lark!

Anonymous said...

Thank you for your service . I have 3 children in the school system and so far my kids are getting a great education thanks to the many great teachers out there.

Anonymous said...

Is that a masters or Dr

Anonymous said...

So what is tour name and salary

Anonymous said...

After two years that 16k turns to 40k.
And yes most people get degrees.

Anonymous said...

Cops with Masters degrees? Oh wow I've heard it all.

Anonymous said...

A teacher in d.c. made the choice to teach there. And look at their schools! No wonder they don't make money.

Anonymous said...

Just for the curriculum they need raises?
Is this Jacob Day? Sounds like it.

Anonymous said...

And you teachers are poor educators. That we know. How do you know he is a bad business man? His results are public fact

Anonymous said...

Probation and parole officers deal with a lot more and make a lot less. All the people they deal with all day are criminals. They have degrees. They don't reform people or teach them how to improve. If they did could you imagine their pay checks?

Anonymous said...

Nothing fair about these pay rates.

Anonymous said...

Always enough money in the world.

Anonymous said...

God I hope you are kidding. Your comment is absurd.

Anonymous said...

You make very little difference. The same result from different less paid teachers would happen. Get over yourself.

Anonymous said...

Nobody is positive about anything on the shore anymore
Look around! You wonder why!

Anonymous said...

Good for you. Admitting the truth. Right from their own mouths! Wow. You deserve a million dollars . only teacher worth a damn on her today. The one who doesn't lie!

Anonymous said...

Welfare has nothing to do with quality of schools. Matter of fact a lot of ghetto schools in america are being rebuilt .

Anonymous said...

So if we don't pay them well or reward them you won't give the same effort? They are our future I agree. So what's it matter how much you get paid. Teach them and do your job. You are a teacher that needs terminated

Anonymous said...

You risk your life at those schools
You should be paid better.

Anonymous said...

Civilian workers made 32.20 on average in 2014
After the book and the one comment you typed I'm convinced your on crack! Wow. You work long hours for 30 an hour. You dreamed of being a teacher wow. You made the big leagues kid!

Anonymous said...

Teacher either do it because you are answering a calling and this is your passion, but don't tell me how you have a degree etc. If you want money get a job that pays for that type of college achievement, but you make better money then most professions so stop whining.

Anonymous said...

Such hate .... no wonder our job is so hard !

Can't wait to hear what people think when they have to fully fund the pensions through the county.

Anonymous said...

Teacher's salaries should not have included their names, this was inappropriate. When are you going to post the salaries for the rest of the county workers? Teachers work more then what shows on their pay checks in order to help raise children. Teachers not only have to teach them the usual skills but also right and wrong. How much should someone, many teachers have master's degrees or higher, get paid for helping to raise 20 or more children a year that are not theirs because they want nothing but the best for those children? Getting paid a little higher then minimum wage for all that teachers do is too much? Shame on those that are do not believe that they are not worth every penny and more! Teacher's worked hard to earn their degrees and dedicate their life to help children. Why shouldn't they earn a good living? And just in case those people that think that teachers make too much, did you forget to take out the taxes? Take about 10,000 away from each salary to get a more accurate amount they take home each year.

Anonymous said...

Yes - let's really view as cost per hour in the class but not today because we are off for less than an inch of snow or is just too cold again but we will be back on Monday - maybe - if you want to see your teachers they will however make it to the gym or health clubs

Anonymous said...

$43,000 for a teacher with a masters? Yea, right, that's a lot of money.

Anonymous said...

We could have lower taxes if our tax money just went to the infrastructure/utilities of the schools and not salaries. Just have the parents pay the teachers the $5.00 an hour I pay for the babysitter and be done with it. Great idea. Taxes could come down and parents then have a direct cost in how their money is spent. So if teachers only have kids for 5 hours a day and classes are pretty small, 15 kids per class. Let's see, 5 hours x 15 kids = 75 and then 75 x $5 per hour= $375 and then $375 x 180 school days= $67,500 per year. Teachers could earn more if they have larger classes and earn less if students are absent. And they could sign up for Obamacare for their health insurance. My taxes would come down since I do not have any kids in school and those with kids would have a responsible to get the best education for their kids. Sort of like the mass transit systems. We all pay a little for it but those who use it then pay extra when they use it. What do you think? Would this work?

I have two undergraduate degrees, a Master's in Teaching, and 21 additional graduate credits in my area of expertise and in teaching. I have 50 thousand dollars in school loans for my education. I work 10 months out of the year, not 9. My work weeks are longer than 40 hours. I coach, attend sporting events and dances, am on several committees...the list goes on. The job of a teacher is unique, as we are teaching, disciplining, counseling, and managing a diverse group of individuals on a daily basis. We are not overpaid. We are professionals and experts in our field. We care for and prepare your children for their future. This blog is a disgrace. If you want public schools to turn into simply holding grounds for your kids, then pay us less. Because we wont continue to pay for our education to be underpaid to teach your kids in return. You will wind up with "babysitters" in your school buildings. Have fun with that.
