Nobody’s Going To The Movies Anymore: Theater Attendance At Its Lowest In 19 Years
The next time you’re at the movies, look around — does there seem to be more empty seats than they’re used to be? Your eyes aren’t lying, as we just left one of the worst years for movie theater attendance since 1995. That is the year of Waterworld and Show Girls, so you know it’s bad.

Why? Almost $50 for a family of four for a matinee? No thanks, I will watch it online, a month before it hits US theaters, for FREE.
At 16.50 per ticket and refreshments, it cost almost 100 dollars for a family of four to go. Unless it is something I can't wait to see, I will wait until it comes out on DVD to rent it at Redbox or a Streaming service. I can now enjoy a similar experience at home with my big screen tv and home theater system. They need to really come down on their prices.
They're too skeert to go & make up stories like "I can rent it and watch it at home for $1".Nothing can equal seeing a movie on a big movie theater screen.
Not true. I went to see Into the Woods last Sunday at the Mall and it was packed. Everyone clapped at the end of the movie.

Popcorn and sodas cost more than the movie ticket, and you get to have the guy behind you pocking your seat back and the hillbilly in front with hair about a foot high. No Thanks!
I dont support Hollywood and I know alot of people who feel the same way. If they would learn to shut their political activist mouths and just act I might be inclined to catch a movie again.As it stands right now,the sight of most of them makes me want to puke.
Who in the world can afford to go to movies anymore. They have gone crazy with prices. I will never go to movies in Salisbury again.
The hood rats can afford it. They're there every weekend. Exactly why I don't go.
8:51-My thoughts exactly.Whatever happened to the time when actors acted,singers sang and everyone did what they did best and stayed out of politics? I feel as you do,and when or if I go to a movie at a theater it's hard for me to look at someone on the screen who IS a political activist.

Six months ago my wife and I went to the movies for the first time in over ten years. Yes, there was a major sticker shock - at the box office and then again at the concession stand.
No problem. Prices go up. We understand that.
But here's why we we'll never again go to a movie house to see a first-run film:
Even before the coming attractions came on the screen, the theater was loud with conversations - many on cell phones.
When the feature started, many individuals and groups decided to add their own play-by-play of the film - yelling out comments toward the screen.
This continued for the first 15 minutes of the film. I had enough. We both went back to the lobby and spoke with a manager, asking if there was some way to control the crowd. He gave me a stock answer about it being a normal occurrence, and they can't control uncivil behavior.
I asked for my money back.
He said it was not their policy to return cash, but would give me four tickets for use at any time in the future.
Not wanting to argue, I took the tickets and we left.
Talking about this incident with friends later on, I was told that in some locations this was the norm.
I gave away the "free" tickets - and never again will I step into a theater to attempt to enjoy a movie-date night out.
WATERWORLD is a great movie!
