Following the successful Guns & Hoses Boxing Event held at Main St Gym, the Police Officers and Firefighters returned to the ring to present donations to their chosen Charities. Each group raised just over $500 from their ticket sales with Main St Gym adding to the funds to make a $1000.00 donation in honor of the participants of the Guns and Hoses event.

For the “Hoses”, (Firefighters) Moses Edwards,Kenneth Vickers, Carlos Stanley and Brandon Records chose to donate to the Wounded Warrior Project The Project helps thousands of injured military men (Warriors) returning from the battlefield by providing assistance to them and their families. The “Guns”, (Law Enforcement Officers) John Oliver, Jesse Kissinger, Brian Barr and Ryan Brittingham chose to donate to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund located in Washington D.C. The Memorial Fund honors officers killed in the line of duty and conducts research into officers' fatality trends and other issues.

“This event was everything we knew it could be” said Main St Coach Hal Chernoff. "The community came out and really got behind all these young men and appreciated what they were doing regardlessof winning or not. These first responders achieved a goal that others have tried and failed; fostering good relations with our community's youth and between each other. I am so proud of all these police officers and firefighter who lead the way as pioneers of Guns& Hoses on the Eastern Shore."

As far as the future, Chernoff said "I have gotten feedback that other people from both fields would like to participate as well as some that want to return again. The fans let it be known loud and clear they want to see this happen again, so I will do all I can to make that happen. The slogan fulfilled itself, Guns& Hoses Creating Unity in the Community”.

It was a well-run and very enjoyable event. I hope that it can be a regular feature.
One suggestion: get LORA restaurant owners involved to improve the food quality and choices.

We attended with another couple and I'm a lady who knows not a thing about boxing, but had the most enjoyable time ever.
We plan to attend this event again and others that Main St Gym hosts.
The only thing I felt was missing was maybe coffee.

What a winner Hal and his boxers are! Thanks are due, but should this become a monthly event? Let's do it at least semi-annually!

In any event, thank you, Al, for all you do! Salisbury is better because you live here!
