With 975 Jobs Lost, We Can't Afford More Pet Projects From The Mayor.

How about working on getting some industry in this town so people can have a job to go to instead of crap like this. We need jobs here, not pet projects of yours. With Labinal leaving this area, there are going to be a lot of people without a job who are probably wondering how they are going to pay their bills or keep their house and you are worried about rehabbing a "Bricks" house. Where is your head Ireton??

Just what we don't need.

The voters are clearly too stupid to realize this mayor contributes nothing to the greater good of Salisbury. He is just another self serving liberal.

Spin it how you like. It's just another subsidized housing project. We keep feeding and housing them, they keep spitting out more kids to feed on the taxpayers teet!

He'll put the job spin on this project, too. But once construction is done, money is spent with local construction supply companies, there will maybe be one or two jobs, each with just over subsistence wages, those being building manager/living transition specialist and maintenance person. Neither job needs to be full time, either, so no benefits.

So, if the jobs carrot is dangled by the mayor, think hard about it.

We can't afford to let 260,000.00 be wasted on a stupid skateboard park. use it to promote jobs, fix roads.. Much more important.

If the city is really interested in revitalization and rebuilding the tax base, it would sell the building that houses the Neighborhood Services Department (which was given to the city through a federal forfeiture) and use the proceeds to renovate the building across the street known as The Bricks as office space for Neighborhood Services. They might even be able to create some office space for lease if the space was larger than needed by NSCC. That way you would anchor 2 corners and put a property back on the tax roles. Knowing that a city building would be across the street should make the current NSCC building more marketable. They have done a good job of upkeep on that. However, I think we are going to see another disastrous deal for the taxpayers and the success of our city on this one. Get ready to get screwed again by your mayor and Jake Day.

Agree in principle, but that money comes from the State as a grant to the city to be used only on parks improvements. The city can't use it for anything else. The issue of where the money goes from the state level, like this money for the skate park, is one that has to be taken up at the state level - contact your state representatives, but let it be known at the local level that you don't like how the money is spent.
