Mayor Ireton, You Should Be Ashamed Of Yourself
What business in ALL of Salisbury would you say is the busiest? The answer, WalMart North. That is where this Salisbury Police vehicle sits. Bumpers cracked, paint chipping, it's a sight to see. You won't see this vehicle in a local parade, or will we?

I think from years of observation that Salisbury Police are used as a stepping stone for the real police. I guess it's like an internship. My opinion is that all police cars should be unmarked with lots of lights and sirens. That means lots of tickets , less speeding , less lawless people.
These cars are run 24/7 with no break. Most departments allow take home cars. It gives incentive to cops, and it means cars are usually taken care of better. I remember them using the Ford Taurus, they were some of the first cars ever. 6 cylinder pieces of crap.
I see this paint "disease" on several of them. I think Ford should be interested in repairing these cars and doing better prep work back at the factory.
Unfortunately if they were to make yearly purchases someone would complain that the city is not spending their money fiscally and someone would say who cares what their vehicles look like.
You know nothing about what you are talking about. Those LE only Chevrolet caprice vehicles are very nice. They are far faster than the crown vic. The crown Vic made less than 250hp whereas these new caprices with the v8 make 355hp/385tq. The weigh less yet have more interior room, and they handle 10x better. In a popular mechanics test the caprice beat out the charger and the ford LE only car.
It is sad to see these cars in disrepair. I'm all for keeping older cars as long as they can to save money, but they need to spend a little time at a body shop. It really doesn't cost much to paint here and there and put a new bumper on. These cars also need to be washed more.
If they have time to sit at Wal Mart then maybe they could ticket all the cars that are illegally parked in handicap spots. Also check in fron to of dollar general on Nanticoke road all the LAZY people that park in fron on the curb!
I say keep the crown vic or whatever, use the new car money for more bicycle patrols. Way more effective deep in the hood than a new car where you cant hear whats going on around you.
Mixed feelings on the general topic. It is expensive to keep any work vehicle on the road, and they are just that, work vehicles.
Paint issues may be factory or how they're cleaned/waxed/etc.
Cops should have a mechanically safe ride but don't need car show exterior.
Favor 'take home' programs for cops residing in physical boundaries of their employer. See a Laurel car here in SBY; lots of wasted miles each day back and forth for no practical deterrent effect. Laurel's problem; not mine; just illustrating.
Does Walmart pay for police presence ? I understand the issue with shoplifting, but cant we just do scheduled shoplifter pick ups at walmart and target etc rather than just hanging around waiting for someone to steal ?
The cars need to be painted. It is a matter of professionalism and charecter. You will not see "Barb" driving junk around. You wont see Lewis or Lt. from MSP driving junk. Have some pride. Has anyone seen the Sheriff car with half the paint missing that look horrible. Then one sees all those Black suvs from the sheriffs office with tinted windows. Really ?? The top forgets where they came from apparently Joe. Hunter Nelms drove an old Bronco for years.
the spd caprice is a v6 and looks small in the front area with all the equipment. heard many officers complain how tight they are. seems like most departments are going to the Tahoe which i heard cost almost the same, same gas mileage and more room for equipment ect. but salisbury would never get them bc public image im sure..
It's an old Ford that probably takes a city drive type of beating 16 hours a day. So long as it's safe, we have other things to complain about that are more important. Maybe it's a year from retirement. If that's the case, why pay to repaint the hood?
While I'm not to familiar with sheriffs office I am very familiar with Msp having worked on their cars for nearly five years. The barrack commanders for Salisbury and princess Anne are the most down to earth decent guys guys you will meet. The princess Anne commander doesn't ask of anyone what he won't do himself. His truck was purchased with GRANT money as to not bring cost to Maryland tax payers. He needs the truck as he is also on the state dive team so he needs room for a lot of equipment. I recall his crown Vic had at least 260k miles and was still going when I left. Unless you know these people at the top I say this.... Shut your trap. I am honored to have worked with them and still call them friends. Maybe put your self in their shoes for a day. Remember they mostly deal with the public that most of us would rather not.

In another 2years they can get historic plates.

7:20, From here on out, how about we ALL agree that the term "public safety is our #1 Priority" by Jim Ireton can never be used again.
WE ALL see new Fire Trucks and believe me, these police vehicles cost pennies on the dollar, compared to Fire Trucks.
Then again, since we're heading towards an Eastern Shore Detroit, maybe we should just get used to this.
Remember, what I'm saying in the Post is, why park something like THIS in front of WalMart for all to see when they have new vehicles.
Because they can and you can't do anything about it.
I'll bet that car gets the actual job done just fine.
Those new cars Sby and MSP are using can't chase down a Prius.
Where does all the camera money go?Someone came up with this income generating idea but where does all the money go?
I'd like to see the answer to 9:08 AM question.

Blind statement such as this show you ignorance.
They should ticket those parked in No Parking in front of Wal-mart !!

Awfully defensive there 9:57.
Getting tired of selling those ugly little new cars everywhere you go ?

you can outrun their cars but not their radios! FOOLS!
