Delmar Delaware Building To Remain Standing
I know, when you look at the pictures above you instantly think, how the heck could this building remain standing if it simply fell down on its own?
There are THREE layers of brick thick on this building, so how did the back side fall down like it did.
Well, one look at the I Beam and the stress of it clearly shows the building is under severe stress. However, a structural engineer says with a few new support wires the building can remain standing and withstand up to 80 mile per hour winds.
If that building was on the Maryland side I can assure you, Mayor Carl Anderton would have forced it to be torn down years ago. However, Delaware Mayor Houllihan is the more passive, (let it go) kind of guy, being that he owns a trailer park, it makes sense.

Joe,
Back in the 90's when I was Mayor of Delmar DE, we as a Town Council asked our engineer to see if the building should be torn down. The engineer would not condemn it then
and I imagine the engineer still will not condemn it.
John McDonnell
1:16-Who specifically would be held accountable if an injury occurred?
The current owner of the building would be sued and the Town would also be named in the suit I imagine.
80 MPH winds? We have a real threat of hurricanes here. I'd be surprised if any insurance company wanted their name on this hazard.
Why doesn't the owner just be responsible and tear the thing down?
joe, what do you mean by "he owns a trailer park". that sounds very condesending.
Doesn't Chris Walter of terra development own this building?? I know he owns the one next door
I have suggested for years that that they tear it down and put a Hooters Restaurant there. There is ample parking across the street at the town office complex. Former Mayor McDonnell, at his age, would just go there for carry out!
I would like to know how this building's owner (Chris Mills) can cause the State Highway 54 to be closed until March 31st and cause the detour around the town? Chris Mills should be held financially responsible for any delays in the fire department getting to fires on the west side of town.
Ok who owns the building Chris Mills or Chris Walters. Sounds to me like 3:18 PM is a sh!t stirrers. He posted the same crap the other day.
If whomever owns it has assets,it would be wise to tear it down.
Fill it up with homeless people.
Joe
Are you saying that now you have a degree in structural engineering and know more about the integrity of buildings than the one that was used in this case? Man get a life. Carl would have done the very same thing that Mike Houlihan did. You are so over the top and off the mark.
6:13, JT, Unlike you, I spoke with Carl, so I know what he would have done.
While you always hide behind anonymous and constantly attack me and my properties, none of my buildings are falling down.
You don't have to be an engineer to know when three layers of brick come tumbling down and an "I" beam is as bent as the one in the picture I provided to know you have a serious structural issue.
Oh, that's right. YOU have NEVER owned a piece of property or a structure or even a shed.
Grow a set and start using your name. Or do you get off hiding behind a Grinch mask?
Smith's Market was on the RR Ave side and a barber shop was on the side facing the bank if I recall correctly. It appears to be in a good location for a business after this building has been demolished.
A ten year old can tell it's a hazard.
I noticed the JT guy shut up after you called him out.
