Imagine this...you work monday through friday (shift work, same schedule every week. You work for a fortune 500 company whose CEO made over 8mm in just bonus last year. Your workplace location is hit with devastating effects of a hurricane, wind and flooding. Your workplace loses power and shuts down on the day of the hurricane event. The workplace stays shut down for production for 3 days. No problem you think, employee handbook says in the case of natural desasters you will be paid for up to 3 days. Thank god because my home is under water, I have had no power at home for the past 5 days, most of my belongings including my vehicle are now ruined by the damages caused by hurricane......and then the company renegs on the 3 days pay provided by the handbook claiming the days shut down were "unscheduled" work days. Now I have no place to stay at the moment, no car, no heat, no water, kids are hungry tired and cold, hole in roof, most of our possessions are ruined AND......Sherwin Williams will not honor the benefits promised to me in writing when I took the job with a highly respected Fortune 500 company. Isn't that nice?

I am very sorry for everything happening in your life right now. I hope that the light will shine on you soon enough. Praying for you and your children.
What is the store manager saying about this? He/she needs to contact corporate and explain. Also needs to be politely brought up that paint and supplies is going to need to be purchased in large quantites and a little bit of compassion for employees will go a long way in profits.

If they don't pay it, we should boycott them locally. Don't buy anything from any Sherwin Williams stores. It's really easy.
Shameful, simply shameful.
So many times info buzzing around business' is no more than gossip among employees/ Perhaps that will be true at Crisfield Sherwin Williams and all will turn out well in the end.
This makes me quite sad, having worked at the Rubberset plant many years ago, and remembering when at least it seemed like upper management cared about the employees in Crisfield.
I hope they have "A change of heart" thanks to this negative publicity, and give these employees a break. They need all the help they can get!
Shameful! I will boycott them. Joe, could you follow up on this?
Welcome to Romney world.
Never mind the fact that Sherwin Williams has only ADDED to the available jobs around here for quite some time. Or that they added more jobs by moving the roller plant to Crisfield instead of shutting down... I am sorry for your loss and I hope that you are able to work these issues out with your human resources department however this is NOT the venue to air your grievances.
To those who doubt this is true... I have 2 relatives who work for Rubberset. During Irene the same thing happened (not nearly as devastating). The handbook clearly states it and they witnessed an employee bring in the handbook and show the management. Management told the employee they would not honor it. The employees are made to sign this handbook to honor it... the company should also. The employees were told that the company was in process of "re-writing" it, however it has been a year since Irene and guess what... they are having new hires sign the same book.... The are violating their own book.
Anonymous 6:29, this is not how an employer should treat their employees and is a violation of their own policy... and yes it is a place to air grievances --- Human resources was informed and FAILED on several other occasions. It is shameful, especially since other companies (including the small business that I work for) is paying their employees to volunteer. I am volunteering without pay because it it THE RIGHT THING TO DO

Why do you say this? I worked for a Fortune 500 internationally known corporation myself. We had hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, you name it happen to employees. We would send crews from other locations to take over until employees got themselves together. We never had a problem finding other employees to take over the responsiblities for awhile. To them it was like a bonus to stay in hotels that the company paid for and getting reimbursed for their food.
Shameful! I will boycott them. Joe, could you follow up on this?

Sure, Joe doesn't have anything better to do than stake out a company over a petty grievance.
Newsflash! Sherwin Williams has now decided to pay the workers. Thank you.
727- petty grievance? you try losing everything but your life then find out the paycheck you were counting on to survive isn't coming...how petty would you find it then???
A contract is a contract. no matter which side breaks it! just because the company wrote it doesn't mean they can ignore whatever section suits them the best at the time. Im glad the company decided to honor their contract..but the damage is already done. too little too late IMHO.
