Update on HB-438 Same Sex MarriageThe combined Judiciary and Health/Government Operations Committees met this morning at 11:00 am to review amendments offered on the O'Malley-Brown Same Sex Marriage Bill. At this time we have been told that there are over 200 potential amendments that have been filed. The chairmen of the committees elected not to review the amendments during a morning committee hearing and, instead, to take them up on the floor of the House as they are offered.
I will be offering an amendment to the current bill which would extend religious liberty protections to all Maryland citizens who do not agree with the provisions and changes in this legislation. Floor debate on HB-438 will begin at 12:30 pm today.
