Smyrna, DE- The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently investigating a two vehicle fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred early this morning in Smyrna, DE.
The accident happened at approximately 12:01 a.m. this morning, September 26, as Lisa M. Lemon was operating a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle and was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed on northbound US Rt. 13 just south of North Street in Smyrna. The front of Lemon’s vehicle struck the rear of a 2005 Honda Odyssey which was being operated by Xiu Yu Chen, and which was traveling on northbound US Rt. 13 directly in front of Lemon’s vehicle. After the impact, the Harley Davidson overturned onto its left side causing Lemon to be ejected into the left hand lane of US Rt. 13 northbound. Lisa Lemon, who was wearing a helmet, was transported from the scene by EMS to the Kent General Hospital where she was pronounced dead at approximately 3:00 a.m. from the injuries she sustained in the crash. Xiu Yu Chen was not injured.
The initial indication is that alcohol was a factor in the crash on the part of Lisa Lemon, however, this investigation is continuing. Rt. 13 was closed for approximately 3 hours as the accident was investigated and cleared.
