Wicomico Early Learning Center, 9:30 a.m.
Pemberton Elementary, 2 p.m.

Prekindergarten and kindergarten students at two Wicomico Schools will get to spend time with a children’s book author on Monday, Sept. 26. Author/illustrator Todd Parr has published some 30 whimsical picture books, including two New York Times bestsellers: The Earth Book and The I LOVE YOU Book. The Earth Book also is a 2011 winner of the Newton Marasco Foundation’s national Green Earth Book Award, given annually at Salisbury University. Ironically, Parr failed high school art class, but as an adult, his work on children’s books has earned him many winning accolades including the Parent’s Choice Award and three Oppenheim Gold awards. His TLC/Discovery Kids show, ToddWorld, was nominated for an Emmy. Parr supports several charities promoting reading, the protection of children and families, and animal care. Armed with an easel, paper and markers, Parr will provide students an inside look at illustration and writing during his local school visits. He will visit with approximately 135 prekindergarten children at the Wicomico Early Learning Center from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Then, from 2-3 p.m., he will present to about 130 prekindergarten and kindergarten students at Pemberton Elementary.
