Palestine--Who Has Rights To It?

I often wondered why so Americans are beginning to believe Muslims have inherent rights to the lands of the Middle East, including Palestine.   Then one day I started to ask a few questions to individuals I encountered at work.  The questions were:

1. When did Islam begin?

2. Who owned Palestine before the Muhammad's followers conquered it?

3. Who did the Muslims defeat in order to acquire Iraq, Syria, Jordon, Turkey and Northern Africa and Palestine?

Before I provide you with the correct answers to thesequestions, I must mention the general impressions held by the great majority of individuals to whom I posed these questions.  Most of them had the impression Muhammad lived before the time of Jesus Christ.  Most of them also believed Muslims always controlled the Middle East and therefore never had a need to conqueranyone.

Well, here are the answers to the questions:

1.     Islam was founded by Muhammad, the prophet, who lived from 570 AD to 632 AD.  Mohammad was born 570 years AFTER the birth of Jesus Christ and more than 200 years AFTER the Roman Empire became Christian.

2.     Before the Muslims conquered them, the Roman Empire contained the lands that today are referred to as Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Turkey, Lebanon and Northern Africa.

3.     The pagan Roman Empire acquired all lands listed aboveduring the five hundred years just PRIOR TO the birth of Christ.  Approximately 400 AFTER the birth of Christ, the Empire accepted Christianity as its official religion.  Therefore, Christians passively acquired all of the lands of the Middle East.  Muhammad, born in the seventh century after Christ’s birth, became a great warrior, and his followers conquered Christian Syria in 636 AD and Christian Palestine 638 AD.  Islam continued to roll over parts of the Christian Roman Empire until it conquered Jerusalem (638AD), Egypt (641AD), North Africa (698AD), Spain (711AD), Cyprus (653AD) and so on….  Islamic warriors even pillaged Rome both in 843AD and 846AD.  The Crusades put a end to the Islamic progression.

Clearly, the Christians and Jews occupied Palestine for more than 200 years before Islam even came to be.  Considering this, does it make any sense to believe Muslims have more right to that land than Christians or Jews?

Why weren’t all Americans taught this history in school?

yeah the muslims do this every couple hundred years till they get their asses kicked then they settle down for a while. they can't even govern themselves. always fanatics everywhere. Only way to stop it is kill enough of em so they don't want to play with us anymore!

Yes, Christians and Jews occupied Palestine for centuries before Muslims. So? Idol-worshippers occupied the land before Jews, so anyone who worships Baal should have first crack at the land.

This sort of "analysis" is pretty ridiculous. You don't have any rights to a piece of land because someone who had the same religion as you lived on that land centuries ago.

the rights to this land was given by G-d. case closed.

thanks for the real history lesson.

This history is subjective to what religion you are. Muslims don't exactly believe in Jesus and they believe the Islam is continuing daily while Christianity's history came to a stop. This history lesson is seen through a Christian's eyes. Compare that to all of the other religions and you will see differences.

But to go to the root of the problem, we need to go back further than this postdoes, and to do that we need to accept the Old Testament as literal history, something schools are not likely to do in America in this day and age.

We need to go back to the Father of the Jews & their current enemies. Abraham is correctly claimed as the father of both groups. His disobedience, (at his wife's urging), is the root of the whole Middle East problem! Genesis, all of chapter 16...(Genesis, chapter21, verses 17-19 concerning the descendants of Abraham, Hagar and Ishmael)

Doesn't the Bible say that the land now known as Israel was already occupied when Moses and his followers came to conquer it? The Romans later named it PALESTINE, (Roman word for PHILISTINE) as a slap at the Jews. Earlier, while the Jews were in bondage for 400 years, the descendants of Ishmael inhabited the land promised to the Jews. So, after leaving bondage in Egypt, the followers of Moses were only taking back the occupied land that was promised them by God.

The thing is that if you take the Bible as being true, before the Jews were in bondage to Egypt for 400 years that contested little area now known as Israel was given, by God, to the Descendants of Abraham & Sarah, the Jews.

The descendants of Abraham & Hagar & Ishmael were promised all the land in the region EXCLUDING Israel whose boundaries are laid out clearly in Genesis as belonging to the Jews!

The descendants of Ishmael were given many times more land and all the oil rich land in the region. But they, sinfully, want the tiny gift of Israel that was given to the descendants of Abraham's legitimate son, Isaac, through Sara. The Jews and Philistines, (Palestinians), are half brothers with Abraham as the father of both peoples. Abraham's sin of not believing his aged wife could conceive his promised son led Sara to suggest and Abraham to conceive the illegitimate Ishmael with the young woman, Hagar. God blessed the descendants of Ishmael with much land and wealth, but his insubordinate, jealous descendants demand the tiny area promised to someone else.

In essence, Abraham's failure to follow God's instructions to have a son with his wife ONLY has led to strife that has continued right to the present day and will end in Armageddon.
