A 44-year-old Houston man has been found dead in a marsh near his hometown, a week after he allegedly assaulted his wife, threatened a pair of Harrington police officers with a shotgun and disappeared, prompting a police manhunt, State Police Cpl. Bruce Harris said.
Harris said police had been looking for Harvey D. Griffith, 44, since Aug. 9, the day of the alleged domestic attack, but police dogs lost his trail in a wooded area near Houston. On the morning of Aug. 16, the crew of a police helicopter noticed “large birds” circling a field in the same area, landed and found Griffith, dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.
