WASHINGTON -- Teachers joke that as long as there are final exams, there will be prayer in public schools. But a caller to WTOP's "Ask the School Superintendents" program put the question to local school chiefs.
The caller, Bill from Manassas, explained he teaches in a Catholic school, where students who had attended public schools would often say they were forbidden from praying or expressing their faith in public schools.
He asked whether teachers are briefed on the federal guidelines set out by the U.S. Department of Education during the Clinton administration.
