Low birth weight rate also higher than nation in latest report, but progress noted
Low birth weights and infant mortality rates in Delaware continue to lag behind the nation, although the trend in the state is improving. These are among the findings from the 2011 Kids Count Data Book released today by the Baltimore-based Annie E. Casey Foundation. The annual report ranks states based on statistics related to children's health and social status.
Delaware progressed in six categories since 2000, including a drop in the child and teen death rates.
It regressed in two areas: percentages of children in single-parent families and child poverty.
