Wicomico Exec and (Part of) Council to Meet With Humane Society

Previously we reported that the Wicomico County Council would seek a sit down with the board of the Wicomico County Humane Society to discuss matters including reports that a dog was euthanized after two rescue organizations had offered to take the animal.  It appears that meeting is moving forward.

The Wicomico County Executive has issued a statement that a meeting will be scheduled to include representatives of the administration and three (3) members of the council.  Why only three members.

We can only speculate, but common logic dictates that a meeting that is restricted to only three members of the seven (7) member council usually means a desire not to trigger the Maryland Open Meetings Act.  While we recently criticized the county council for unnecessarily holding a closed session at their last meeting, we do not believe that the council had any say in the number of council members invited.  It is our belief that the Humane Society board does not wish to be placed under public scrutiny.

We hope that the Humane Society will provide candid answers behind closed doors.

I don't think they should be allowed to have this under a closed meeting. Public comment should be allowed and the public should have free access since this is a public organization and a public matter. This is inappropriate!

Don't hold your breath for those "candid answers."

They have a "Board" that's responsible for All the employees at the HS!
So , where are these Silent people who should be responsible to the citizens of the County.
Stand up----be counted.

Would someone please post their names on here so they can be contacted or have they died!!!!!

You know when they are given tax payers money----they Need to be under Public Scrutiny!! Who the heck do they think they are anyway.
You can bet smooth talking Lugo will get off with it again this time. It is high time they make her responsible for the things she does! It's time the Board is Responsible to the citizens & the Animals! Disgusting, totally disgusting the way this Dept . has been let go to do what ever they wish -------with no accountability!!!

I've heard she said the dog had Rabies that's why they put him down---if so---where is the proof? That is what one means for bearing responsibility----she can say Anything she wants---& she does!!!! Just ask around or read this blogg site from those who've written in about what has happened out there!

I need to chime in here.

Look, there are several matters in which I disagree with Linda Lugo and especially the Board of the Humane Society.

However, unless you have proof or evidence I strongly encourage ALL of you to NOT believe anything any anonymous commenter has to say.

Linda would not put a dog down unless it was necessary. I think ALL of you saw the condition of the dog mentioned and there was no question in any ones mind the animal could have had issues.

Mind you, I would like to see the Humane Society and or the Board Members be far more forthcoming when it comes to situations like we have seen recently.

This crap between Mayor Ireton and County Executive Rick Pollitt forcing Department Heads to keep their mouths shut reminds me of Cuba and Russia.

This is America. WE, I'll repeat, WE PAY THEIR SALARIES!
