Cost of Breaking Law in Delaware Poised to Rise

The price of a speeding ticket is about to go up -- along with fines for any other violation of Delaware law.

Gov. Jack Markell is poised to sign legislation to levy a new $15 fee on every criminal, civil, traffic and Family Court violation on the books -- creating millions in new revenue for police agencies.

For a speeding ticket for driving 10 miles over the limit, add-on fees of $32.40 earmarked for various expenses already outweigh the cost of the actual $30 ticket.

State lawmakers just added another $15 to the bill.

The new fee, passed by the Senate on the last night of the legislative session, will go toward hiring and equipping new state troopers and paying municipal police officers overtime for combating violent crime, officials said.

Baby, what I say!! Not only are the fines and levies going up, up, UP!!!, but there WILL be constant and pervasive "campaigns", more radar traps, increased roadblocks (to see IF we are criminals), and stepped up "patrols". After all, why increase the fines if ya ain't gonna get "criminals" and get paid?... And speaking of criminals, there has GOT to be more things we can label as "crimes", which will allow the collection of even MORE fines. I urge our lawmakers to quickly pass laws to require the random and surprise search/inspection of EVERY household. There are just so many crimes that have yet to be discovered.... just make sure to NOT put any more emphasis on stopping burglaries, solving murders (unless it the murder of a police officer---than no amount of money or effort is to be spared), or shutting down known drug dealing areas. Where's the money in THAT??! After all, the safety and security of the citizens is of no consequence. So go ahead police --- SHOW US THE MONEY!!!
