Adoption May Be The Next Step

Joe,

We have held onto this puppy for a week. She is great with kids and other dogs but not housebroken. We have contacted rescues and they are unable to take her.
Tomorrow we are going to have to unfortunately take her to the humane society.
Not sure if you could repost her one more time.

That will be the endo of a good dog my friend!!! Take her to Worcester Cty, in Berlin if able to!

Tried worcester and dorchester but animal control must pick up in those counties and they decide what to do with dog.

Please don't take her to the Wicomico Humane Society.

Wish I could take her, but my two wouldn't got for it (neither would my wife).

The pup looks to be part Doberman, contact the Doberman Rescue group, they might take her. http://www.dogsaver.org/doberman/

My god people, you act like Lugo is shooting the dogs before they reach the kennels. Get a grip!

Seriously put your home and money were you mouths are and start adopting these dogs or at least fostering them.

6:43 - She might as well be. How about you? Is your home and money where your mouth is?

803, yes it is, but I dont have need to flaunt it all over salisbury.

No, she is not shooting the dogs before they reach the kennels; she is euthanizing them AFTER they arrive there. My heart breaks to think of this dog going to the Wicomico Humane Society. If I take any more dogs into my family, I will a borderline hoarder.

Anon 6:43 - Didn't "Lugo" just put down a dog who, because it had bite marks on it, "might have rabies?" And didn't that same dog have offers from rescues to take it and care for it? No, she doesn't kill them before they get there, but she doesn't hesitate to kill them once she gets control over them. And once she makes her mind up about an animal, there's no changing her mind. The public outcry about the "maybe rabid" dog, I'm sorry to say, probably just accelerated its death at the hands of our "humane" society.

6:43 - I, like many others who comment on these issues, already have as many rescues as we can afford and can PROPERLY care for. Although Lugo may not shoot them before they get there, she doesn't do nearly as much as she should to find homes for the animals she doesn't kill. When was the last time you saw the HS out in the community at Pet Smart or anwhere else with animals they are trying to adopt out? I was told at one time that they won't work with Pet Smart because Lugo disapproves of something about Pet Smart. I know, they "don't have the money." But isn't that what the money they DO HAVE is for?

There are things worse than death - for both humans and animals. In my opinion I would prefer to see an animal euthanized than to suffer. I would not like Ms Lugo's job of having to make that choice but that is part of her job. I also believe that she is more informed on each individual case than the general population.

Several months ago we lost our Ragdoll cat to cancer. I called the Wic. Co.Humane Society many times to get the hours and to inquire about available cats/kittens. No one ever answered. We went there one Sat am, supposidly opened at 11:00 so the answering machine and sign said, but it wasn't open. Went to Pet Smart and looked at the cats/kittens offered by Worcester Humane Society. I did like one there, but we went back to Wicomico Humane Society, still closed, so we went back to Pet Smart and adopted a kitten from them/Worcster Humane Society. We didn't understand the deal then, why they weren't open here, and just figured they were short-staffed and no one was available to open up.
We would have adopted from the Wic. Co. Humane Society, but we figured by this time that no matter where we adopted from, Wicomico Co, - Worcester Co., we were still adopting a cat/kitten that didn't otherwise have a home.
Even if a staff member couldn't be here to open up, we wondered if there were volunteers that could possibly just open the doors so people could at least get in and see the pets. One reads all the time how they have so many animals for adoption and end up euthanizing some because they are so full. Well, if they could be open when they say they're going to be open, perhaps it wouldn't be quite such a problem! One can't adopt a pet if the doors aren't open! I'm not suggesting they be open 24/7, just be open when you say you are...

The Humane Society has been closed only two Saturdays that I know of. One was the Walk for the Animals at Winterplace Park in May--signs were posted on the door, the website, etc. The other Saturday was June 25 for the special dedication starting at 11, but you would have seen people attending that since it was right beside the front door.

And make sure someone is there to feed and water the animals.
