In my opinion, this confirms my suspicion that the FOP is nothing but a political action group.
I've thought that for quite some time and I belive this does nothing but to confirm it for me.
Thanks for posting this Joe.

Among many, I will be voting for both! Great choice of endorsements Lodge 50!

For me, this shows that if the people/coworkers among them support them enough to give them an endorsement, they must be worthy of it, and we as a county/community should do the same by supporting & voting for them! Just my opinion.

We're supposed to support candidates just because the FOP supports/endorses them? I don't think so.
I may be in support of the same candidates, or I may not be, but just because a political action group supports them doesn't make that candidate the right person for the JOB.
That's part of what's wrong in this country's elections.
People "follow suit" instead of making up their mind on their own!

I wouldn't, nor am I following suit. I had my mind already made up to vote for both. I just applauded a good choice (IMO), BUT, knowing that this Fraternal Organization of Mr. Mason's peers/coworkers supports him, along with McDermott DOES show that they want to see them in office. Hopefully, that means the people who work with and for them (past & present) feel that they are the right man for the job(s). Afterall, I can't imagine them voting to endorse and support someone they didn't feel would do the best job, and make the best choices for the Office and the Community when they will have to work with or for him/them. Mason is the longest appointed Chief Deputy, serving 20+ years at the Worcester County Sheriff's Office and under 2 consecutive Sheriff's, that says a lot in itself. Not to mention being reappointed by Martin when he (who is a Democrat) fell ill...

This just proves you need to clean house in Worcester County sheriff's office. Endorsing incompetence at the least and possible criminal conduct at the worst doesn't show much for the FOP.

Hope you'll print this Joe as I know you support McDermott without question.

1:41, Excellent observations and comments.
I've been a member of Lodge 50 for 14 years serving at vice president for 5 years.
During that time Lodge 50 has never endorsed a political candidate. The fact that we are endorsing now shows how critical the lodge members feel these election are for the county.
There may be one more endorsement after the primaries are done... stay tuned.

I can imagine the reason FOP has endorsed candidates is that they feel those candidates will help them get what THEY want (political action group). That's what they do! IMO, it has NOTHING to do with who may be better for the job.
Maybe if I put if differently you will understand what I'm saying. It only takes two words.
SPECIAL INTEREST.

This endorsement says quite a bit. The men and women in Lodge 50 are dedicated to serving Worcester County honorably and professionally. In the race for Sheriff, they are intimately aware of every candidate's capabilities and character. Throughout his career, and to Lodge 50's satisfaction, Reggie Mason has demonstrated his abilities as a leader. He has administered a responsible budget for many years, he has supervised tough deputies during good times and bad times, and he has had to problem solve under fire. Reggie Mason will elevate the WCSO. There are candidates in this field who have never had to prepare or administer a government budget, and have never supervised or issued an order - EVER.

It's a no brainer they would endorse these two. They only benefit is through internal promotions (more money for themselves). Why change the way they do things. Keep everything the same.

The FOP endorsement of R. Mason is a joke...They never have more than about 10-15 people show up at any one meeting and most of those are supporting this endorsement for selfish reasons...Mason has been riding the coattails of Chuck Martin for years. The brains behind the organization was Martin. Mason seems to be getting all the credit for the management and expertise of a retired 1/Sgt. of the Maryland State Police Officer turned Sheriff...Make no mistake...the success of the Sheriff's Dept. has been a direct result of Sheriff Martin's leadership; not R. Mason's he was just in the right place at the right time...he was just a K-9 handler for God's sake..and in Martin's absence lately things are going to hell quickly.
