The Salisbury Career Fire Fighters Association will once again participate in the “Fill the Boot” campaign, on Thursday September 2nd and Friday September 3rd of this year. Fire fighters will be at intersections throughout Salisbury in the morning and afternoon, collecting money during stops in traffic. The annual fund drive collects money on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and 100% of the money goes to help local families through the MDA. This money helps with research, medical costs, and also helps send the kids to a special summer camp.
The history of “Fill the Boot” began over 50 years ago, with a Boston Fire Department, and over the years the International Association of Fire Fighters has donated over $200 million to the MDA. The IAFF is the largest supporter of the MDA, and the SCFFA collected over $10,000 last year alone with the help of many generous people.
We hope that through the generosity of the citizens we can make this another record year in our effort to help the MDA and “Jerry’s kids.” So look for the fire fighters at intersections in Salisbury on the Thursday and Friday before Labor Day, and remember if everyone can give a little, a lot can be achieved.

Please remember this money does NOT go to the fire departments. This money will go to the MDA.
Thats real safe-collecting money at intersections,isnt there a safer alternative?
Google fill the boot and you will see this is how it is carried out across the country. i'm sure the participants will have on their safety vest, and wait for redlights.
It's a shame Salisbury has two tv stations and neither one airs the Jerry Lewis telethon. School used to start the day after Labor Day so us kids knew Jerry was the final day of summer. Kids in this area have no idea what the telethon is or what Jerry's Kids mean. It's no wonder they act the way they do when they see someone especially a child sitting in a wheelchair.
nah im sure some of that money will go to buying another ladder truck or boat or hole in the head .... oh wait the hole in the head would be a more useful item for salisbury to spend money on
The volunteers and career at Salisbury did this for several years and were told by Maryland State Police to stop. This was a traffic flow problem and we were not allowed to do this anymore. We raised over $ 50,000 cash in 3 years. We enjoyed doing it and planned it every year. We set up at rt 50 and nanitcoke rd. college ave and 13, and rt 50 at beaglin park dr. as well as the front of the 3 fire stations. What has changed ? How did the local union get permission to do this ? We weren't allowed.
I agree with 6:30 that it's a shame that none of the local TV stations carry the Jerry Lewis telethon anymore. What's really a shame is that there are 5 local TV stations not 2. WBOC (16 & 21), WMDT (3 & 47) and WRDE (31.1 or cable channel 9). Somebody should step up to the plate!
Buddys Shell Station ( formerly on North 13 near Isabella) used to have a big fund-raiser for MDA every Labor Day Weekend too.
They raised alot of money for Jerrys kids.Maybe some local businesses can do something similar.
