MAY MYSTIFIES SHOREBIRDS IN 9-0 LAKEWOOD WIN

BlueClaws Starter Trevor May Fans 14 Batters

Salisbury, Md.
– Lakewood starter Trevor May tied a Lakewood franchise record with 14 strikeouts as the BlueClaws cruised to a 9-0 win in the series finale at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday night. The Shorebirds fall six games out of first place heading into an off day on Wednesday.

Trevor May (4-1) was the headline story. In seven innings, he fanned a career high 14 batters and kept the Shorebirds to just four hits. He fanned seven of the first ten Shorebirds batters and retired 11 in a row between the third and sixth innings.

Lakewood starting the scoring in the fourth inning. Leandro Castro singled and stole second. Later in the inning, Stephen Batts singled Castro home.

The ‘Claws plated three more runs in the fifth inning including another RBI single by Castro. In the sixth inning, Jeremy Barnes belted a solo homer over the left-center field wall to give the BlueClaws a 5-0 lead.

Shorebirds starter Kenny Moreland (6-4) was pinned with the loss in six innings. He allowed ten hits and five runs (three earned).

Lakewood plated four more in the seventh inning. The two big hits were a two-run triple by Batts and a double by Barnes.

Jesse Rasner and David Walters each tossed scoreless relief efforts. Rasner went 1.1 innings while Walters hurled a scoreless ninth inning.

Eight of the nine Lakewood position players record hits. Jonathan Singleton and Jeremy Barnes each notched three hits.

The Shorebirds return to the diamond on Thursday night from Applebee’s Park in Lexington, Kentucky. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
