Sewer Rates to Increase

Salisbury Mayor Jim Ireton announces a sewer rate increase of 15%. The Adopted Budget for Fiscal Year 2011 amends the sewer rates to increase by 15%. The new sewer rate goes into effect July 1, 2010 and will be reflected on bills dated after October 1, 2010. This is per Ordinance 2112 amending sewer rates.

There is no increase for water rates.

That sewer increase sucks... we live in county and already pay 180.00 for 3 months, we don't have trash pick up. If they raise it higher they should at least offer trash pick up. Ireton sucks!

I was told that the water sewer rate was split down the middle. If you got 100 gallons of water you flushed 100 gallon of water down drain. BUT this is not right...I may take 100 gallons of water thru the water meter and I keep the used water from washing dishes etc and I put it on the garden I am growing. So do we have a water meter and and sewer meter...I dondt think so..corrupt?

Is there a list of CUTS being made as well?

1:54 I'm going to try to be nice here.... If you don't live in the city limits, then this does not apply to you. I would think that would be obvious but apparently not. Your beef is with the county not Ireton.

Be nice to see previous rates as well as the rate changes.

The parking fine is an issue, at least at the courthouse, because when you have a court date, how many quarters should you put in?? 2 or three?? 8-10? there is NO WAY to determine when your case will be heard so your ONLY choice is to max out the meter or face a (relatively) large fine...SO EITHER WAY, by the extra and unnecessary quarters in the meter, or by the fine for not having enough in the meter, the county has a cash cow going on here....and now they want to eliminate the "quick pay" option?? More "protection" please, sir...we need more "protection" (from these blood sucking, free spending, lying, cheating, scoundrels who would be in jail for fraud, misappropriation, check kiting, and the like, except they are operating under the cover of "public servant" when serving the public is the LAST thing they think about....

I can see the rescinding of the $1.00 ticket policy as another blow to the downtown area. I have used it in the past when I get stuck in the government building waiting on people to do their jobs, I have since learned that 1 quarter is not enough to think you can run in and out to get stuff done with the speed at which the county/city employees run at.

As for the sewer tax, we all knew it was coming, gotta pay for that screw up somehow.

I live in the county but have city water/sewer. We pay $225 every three months. It sucks. I dread what the bill is going to look like.

And I agree with a previous commenter- where are the cuts??

These fees are still low.

If parking downtown was free for 3 hours like Easton, Our downtown might be as busy and bustling as Easton, and sales taxes would more than increase the City income they now get from meters and fines!

These are the reasons my house is for sale and moving to Delaware. Screw Salisbury and it's corrupt government.

The parking ticket policy will hurt alot of people who work and do business downtown. It was convenient to be able to avoid a huge ticket($25 on average) by paying it while you are already downtown.

1:54 why would they offer trash pick up for a higher sewerage rate? That makes no sense. What you need to consider is since you don't live in the city you are not hit with double taxation. City residents pay city taxes and county taxes, which pay for the roads in front of your house- not theirs. You enjoy the city service of wastewater treatment and do not have to worry about installing a septic tank, maintaining it or having it pumped when it is full. You are getting something out of the deal. Tell me what people living in Hebron or Pittsville get out of paying county and town taxes other than schools? Not roads, wastewater, water, etc... so wait in line you are not unique.

There are people that are on city water and sewer that are NOT inside the city limits. I guess its not so obvious as you thought. Don't they have blog on that side of the bridge?

$20 for the first page of an accident report and $5 for each additional page???? How the F is this legal???

The water bill use to be egual, what you paid for in water equaled what you paid for in sewer. Overtime, the city allowed places like shorebirds & worwic to hook in to there water / sewer and giving them a break. Overtime they maxed out the water / sewer and never collected enough funds for proper upgrades for all the persons / business they allowed to have access to the water / sewer. Then they paid millions for a sewage treatment plant that is nowhere up to par and expect ME TO PAY FOR THEIR BAD DECISION.

Anyway it pisses me off. (yea yea yea better to be pissed off the on)

What are you city people crying about. You get to live in the most dangerous city in America. You have a septic tank for a river. Your Mayor has the backbone of a jellyfish. Stop crying. Do like I did move. So the place becomes a bigger ghetto.
