Back on June 24th, Salisbury News provided this information. Hey Greg Bassett, Joe Carmean, THIS is why they call PRINT a dinosaur! Oh, I know, you didn't have room to print it. You couldn't get a hold of Siggers. The Press was stuck. Spell Check wasn't working.
Truth, you have next to no staff left, you're not using your own Press to print daily papers any more, your advertisers are coming to Salisbury News and while this "one man show" continues to prove our sources are not only better, they're more reliable. The only reason the Daily Times is still afloat is because they're backed by Gannett. If they had to survive on their own they would have shut down 2 years ago.
It just amazes me that people continue to pay for a newspaper that takes five days to provide LOCAL information they read here to start with. I mean, we do most the the work for them to start with. They see news pop up here and they decide which article they want to run with, get more details and provide the verbose version of what we already delivered, now up to five days in advance.
It sure is a nice luxury to have 5 days to do research on local news. Then again, (in this case) who really gives a crap.

What I hate about the Daily Times is the amount of articles not written by local writers. The paper is made up of mostly articles from the Associated Press and the USA Today. Next time you read the Daily Times (if you still do) look for the author's name of the article and count how many "AP" articles there are- then compare that those that state "Staff Writer". You'll soon realize that as Joe is pointing out here, their local coverage sucks, because their staff is so thin.
I really feel for those that continue to work there. I'm sure that there are some members of the staff that are really passionate about their trade. My advice to them is to continue to send out the resume and be willing to re-locate.
