'Homo Depot'? Chain Hosts Kiddie Crafts At 'Gay' Fests

Critics: Children's workshops 'in midst of loud and boisterous homosexual activities'

Is Home Depot seeking to introduce children to the homosexual lifestyle?

The home-improvement giant has sponsored yet another "gay" pride event and provided children's craft workshops "in the midst of loud and boisterous gay activities" at the 2010 Southern Maine Pride Festival in Portland, Maine, according to the American Family Association.

"The worst offense is that Home Depot has set up kids' workshops at these gay pride festivals," explains AFA's director of special projects. "These are events that have loud, boisterous homosexual activists making their voices heard – and Home Depot is putting money behind setting up kids' booths at these kinds of events."

In a form letter to Home Depot, AFA tells the company its inclusion of children's activities at homosexual events is "irresponsible" and encourages children's attendance.

"Thus, they will likely be exposed to unhealthy and risky environments," it states. "I'm imploring you to put the safety and well-being of children first by not sponsoring or participating in homosexual events."

In photos of the June 19 Maine festival, Home Depot's logo can be spotted on plastic cups, "My toy store" bumper stickers and aprons. People wearing Home Depot aprons sat on a float above a large and prominently placed placard of a Home Depot orange race car.

Home Depot is also listed alongside Bank of America on the Southern Main Pride's sponsor page.

Good Lord. Gay people have children too. Home Depot probably sees it as tapping into a market that isn't traditionally tapped into.

Gay people traditionally have come into run down neighborhoods and refurbished properties themselves. They are huge customers of places like Lowe's, Home Depot and other hardware, home improvement stores. Gay people also have children. Gay people take their children to gay pride events. It is likely Home Depot set up their display for these gay families and not to entice the children of straight families to attend the event.

its an illness...they need to be fixed.

I don't see the problem here

It is for the children of gay people attending the event. Head out of the sand there are gay couples bringing up children everywhere.

I used to drive out of my way to support home depot over Lowes, but the opposite will be the case from now on.

We educate children about different religious and political believes, so what is wrong with children being exposed to gay people.

I am a hard core, right wing, republican, who can't believe we still have so much homophobia around us. I know many homosexuals, and with very few exceptions, they are all responsible contributors to our community. They raise children, and these children seem very normal to me. Judge each person individually. Do not make an assumption about a person until you know them. P.S. That being said, I don't like the way they vote :)

Anon 9:53, thanks for your honesty and humor. I am part of a gay family. I live next to conservative Republicans and they are very nice people too, in spite of the way they vote. :-)

This is not a problem and those who have "issues" can deal with it. From a business point of view money has no sexuality or race etc.

ha, was reading so fast I missed the headline; "homo depot"

Hilarious

We are at a moral devide. It will dictate our future. Good or bad or somewhere in between. I have a cousin that is a man and he is married to a man. I care more about the fact that I dont see family in a long time than I do about his sex preferance. Just a piece of the past.

I dont shop at Home-Depot because of there illegal workers.

Children being exposed to anything sexual at a business setting is inappropriate, especially one that God calls an abomination.

TAL - what sexual thing are the children being exposed to at the display? It's about building for kids.

HOMO DEPOT, too funny. I wonder how long it takes them to drive a nail.

being gay is a priviledge and an honor. It is the true and normal way to live your life.

The divorce rate demonstrates that the gay lifestyle is the more normal way to live

The Catholic Faith has clearly demonstrated that the gay life is godly.

Better to be gay than to be unhappily married.

If more people were gay there would not be all the overpopulation problems we have now.

We should encourage poor people especially to become gay.

I think public education is doing its part in helping young people to accept the gay lifestyle. It is the moral thing to do. It will solve the overpopulation problem.

8:52 Many of the gay people you speak of would gladly vote Republican if the party would stop demonizing gays.

Good for them. What's the big deal?

3:21 That is probably true. I have found homosexuals to be equally as intelligent as heterosexuals, in most cases maybe more so, based on some of the comments I've seen posted on this website. I hope you realize that my post was intended with tongue in cheek humor, not to be taken literally. While I am a conservative, I still like to consider myself open-minded and rational. Sadly, it is true that members of all political (and other) inclinations may carry their beliefs to an extreme and forget that we're all in this together. I'll work on getting the republicans straight if you work on convincing homosexuals that the conservative party is worth voting for :)

It is not the act of being 'gay' but the insistence in-your-face vularity spued/spewed forth by the radical gay element.
I don't care what your choice is but stop flaunting your decision.
