GOOD. I travel that road everyday. Yesterday there was a ford explorer pulled in with the rear stuck clear out in the middle of the road. I hope they get towed.. I know these kids are trying to get an education , but they need to use common sense.. Again good job.. Go get em ....

I think they are talking about College Ave between rt 13 and Camden Ave, right beside the college. Are there no parking signs there? How can they just decide today that they are going to tow them. Im ALL for them towing these vehicles if they are parked illegally.

What about smith street? And other surrounding roads. Mexicans and others in the area leave their cars in the road and for that nobody else gets a plowed road. How is that fair?

They are towing because it is a snow emergency route. Most students aren't aware of this fact. It's ridiculous to applaud something like this.

There IS parking there on the East bound side. If SPD though never marked this area as no parking (even temporarily), I don't know what the basis would be for towing cars from there.
Could the City also start ticketing all the landlords who haven't shoveled their walks on W. College Ave.? I walked the length of it and it was glaringly obvious that the homeowners shoveled their walks, but the rentals did not, with the exception of Sarah Showell's and Steve Cox's rentals. They've been consistently shoeveled and salted. Those two landlords always seem to be on top of maintaining their rentals. Maybe they should give the others lessons.

Gotcha...I was thinking of the part up by snowhill.However the people need to get thier side walks cleared or should we say yards because these kids that go to Bennett have to walk in the streets and someone is going to get killed.Salisbury does not know how to handle a thing.Not even snow for Gods sakes....Maybe we should call Sherriff Lewis on this [roblem as well....
Camden is a snow emergency route and there is no parking allowed during a snow emergency. The city can't do it's job if the citizens don't do theirs.

There's no parking there after the snow emergency is declared. That was last week and is still in force. Now comes the enforcement part. It'll cost each person whose car is towed upwards of $300 for fines, towing and storage charges. It's not like they didn't have any warnings.
I don't see the point in applauding this either. Is the snow on college avenue really interfering with your drive? I'm all for getting the road completely cleared, but advocating the towing of students cars is kind of ridiculous...especially when most of the side streets are no parking. Not to mention, if you were to park on campus without a parking pass, they hawk your car out instantly.

Yes it was difficult to drive through there with the cars parked there. There are signs up and down they say no parking during snow route. Kudos for the chief!
Student ARE warned about off-campus parking in orientation and periodically by other means within the college. They CHOOSE to park there, then CHOOSE not to obey the law.
This isn't picking on students, it's expecting good civic behavior from them and everyone else. Welcome to the world of personal responsibility.

how to about the sheriffs office tow vehicles that are not parked properly on Dogwood Drive. many are sticking out in the middle of the road and making it almost impossible to have two cars coming down the road the same time.

According to the MD website, there are no active snow emergency declarations. Therefore, how can the city justify towing those cars?

I think they should be towed. If they are too dumb to read the signs, then they will have to pay the price. You people who think it is stupid would be the first ones b!tching if a child was hurt or killed trying to catch a bus there. Then you would be saying sue the City of Salisbury because they didn't clean the snow emergency routes. It's difficult to see around some mounds of the snow, especially if you own a car. Everyone complains about the snow removal, but how are these guys supposed to do their jobs if someone is parked in the way? I'm most certain the university has warned the students time and time again, but they don't think it's going to happen to them. The other factor is laziness. Park where you are supposed to and walk.

OMG they have to tow those cars! I for one, like to have these laws randomly enforced. Man, i have to calm down...Im just so excited! YAHHHHHH! I just cant wait to get out and drive 10mph up and down those streets causing traffic jams. And with these cars cleared off the streets, i can exercise my 2mph, left and right hand turns. OMG! Come to Priscilla St as well, or are the SPD afraid to tow cars from the Hood. They don't mind towing the cars of college kids since mom and dad will pay the fine and towing costs.

If a student doesn't feel like or can't afford to pay for the parking garage then park in another lot and walk. Yes I said it JUST WALK I did it in the rain snow sun and boredom and made it to class while the campus dwellers were to lazy to walk from their dorms to class. Anybody whose car is towed gets to pay for it to get it back. If they don't pay, the city keeps it and auctions it off in the spring/summer to pay for the towing and storage. If the fine isn't paid, look forward to not being able to register or reregister any car in your name (in MD and some other states that have reciprocity) until the fine is paid. It may also be the case that you won't be able to renew your driver's license until parking fines in your name are paid, though I'm not sure about that.
How often has the snow emergency had to be invoked? really, snow rarely lasts this long here. this is an unusual event, but an extradinary amount of time has been provided to take responsiblity for your vehicle. It has been a week, whomever is parked there has had ample time to get it moved. If indeed it is students, they had plenty of free time to shovel.
Clearly the snow is not going anywhere quickly, and the maintenance needs to be done. Enough time has passed for these routes to be cleared, and those who cannot move their car in a week needs to be towed. Hopefully snow is over for the year, but if not, this needs to be tended to.

It's the law and many of the cars on college ave did block with piles of snow on the left of the parked cars, makes it difficult to share the road with cars moving in both directions. I am glad they were towed!
I've taken pictures of the ridiculous way cars are parked around the college, and I am thrilled they are going to finally tow them! I have seen too many near-miss accidents about to happen every morning and afternoon I have to drive around there. Many cars are parked with their bumpers sticking out, completely blocking traffic, and making it one-way roads.
Its about time. People have had a week to move their cars. So move them or lose them.
This is an issue Salisbury University needs to deal with. Those cars parked by the tennis courts shouldn't be plowed in with literally a 4 ft wall of snow and then be expected to move their cars or be towed. Parking at the university is basically cut in half right now because of all the snow..where else are we supposed to park?!
I was standing right there when they were towing all the vehicles. One student came out just as Rathells Towing was loading a vehicle. When the student asked the driver how much it would be to drop the car right then and there he was told $350.00, and if he waited to pick it up it would be 50 dollars more per day. What a joke !! Tindalls Towing, Collision Towing, Quality Towing, H&T Towing, and Rathells Towing are all either owned or run by Tommy Tindall.....watch out for his a@$ cuz if he gets ahold of your car its gonna cost you a fortune. (if you can get them to even answer the phone)
I am a student at Salisbury University and I would just like to say that the original cars left there during the snow emergency were ticketed several times before they were towed today. I walk by them everyday on my way to class. These cars were the reason that the rest of the street including the parking area were not cleared. These cars should be towed. The only people I feel sorry for were the cars that were parked there only today for class. These people did not prevent the original clearing of the snow and were not repeatedly ticketed as some cars were - just wrong time wrong place.
Smith is our street. You plow our street often when snowing or we park any place we find. Stupid people. You think we can fold up car and put it up on porch.Mexico is our country. We only rent your land and houses to make money and send most back to Mexico or bring over moe relatives and friends. We like high wages. We do work you think you are too good to do. wow $350 dollars to tow a car what a rip..I know guys towing tractor trailers for that price. 1 owner 5 trucks and 5 different company names just so he can be on the city police rotation 5 times and rip people off..city police needs to rid these type of owners from representing them. they should put all city services out to bid for one company to handle and then most of these guys would disappear.
Johnny Boy, getting a car towed is a penalty! Of course it's going to be expensive! If you don't want to pay the fine, then don't end up in that position!

penalty or not there is no excuse for a rollback light duty towing company to be charging $350 for a local impound, its insane and its price gauging the people of salisbury. Salisbury needs to set a rate just like ocean city. All impounds are $150 in ocean city if its a police call. That alone would put alot of these rips offs out of business. Had a buddy get towed in by "automedic" for expired tags went to pick it up same day and was forced to pay over $450 dollars. Not even right. These companies shouldn't even be allowed on the police rotation list.
