Wicomico County Executive Request New Library Money?

Last night House Bill 99 was filed and showed-up on the Maryland Legislature website. The bill's description describes funding to be used for 'planning and studies' for the Wicomico County library.

From reading the bill one gets the initial impression that Wicomico's County Executive might be seeking funds for the planning and/or feasibility study for a new future library. As an observer at a recent Wicomico County Budget hearing held at the Civic Center, it was obvious that this capital project has drawn considerable consternation among our taxpaying public - especially in light of our sagging local economy.

For those of you who visit this website - I urge you to contact the sponsoring Delegates and let them know how you feel about the proposed project. Sometimes the 'right hand doesn't always know what the left hand is doing' thus it is incumbent upon the taxpayers to relay their sentiments and let their elected State representatives know how they feel about such a large capital expenditure.

If you are reading this, you have access to MORE information than a library offers (without internet access). Our children already are being taught to use the internet.

- nuff said. Stop the funding. Save some taxpayer expenses.

We have nothing to fear, but fear itself.

Give it a break! Close the library. It is a waste of money. A new one? For what? So we can name it Pollitt's Place?

I couldn't say it any better than Al in Fenwick.

My daughter is 12 and has been to a public library maybe twice in her life. Yet she is an Honor Roll Student!! :-) Libraries belong in the schools at this point.

When the Internet breaks down...then we build libraries.

I agree 100% with 7:39. Use the money to pay our workers. For the price of a library we could purchase every student in the county a computer and teach them how to use it. Salisbury School had done this for years. No reason why we cant do the same and spend OUR money wisely and have educated students.

Libraries, as they have traditionally been, are antiquated and almost obsolete. The Salisbury library has become a haven for the homeless and riders of buses seeking temporary relief from heat or cold. No one wants to go down there anymore. Let's dig up some statistics from library usage of 10 years ago compared to now. I bet its dropped by over 60-70% and still falling fast. Invest in our schools, our school computer equipment, and tech teachers and leave the library to the 20th century. Electronic Libraries, like it or not, are here to stay.

eff money for new library. nothing wrong with the one we have.

The masons have spoken. Money will be spent to build a new library. More and more money will be spent to build more and more Salisbury University buildings also. More and more local property will be purchased with taxpayer money (future tax payers obviously since the current tax payers are broke).

This is what Freemasonry looks like. :)

Masons? WTF? Where did that come from....
GREAT. Just what we need. Some other weird a** thing to worry about. If we've got extra angst that needs to be used, let's direct it at the HIGH CRIME in our area...Anon 8:19, go back to watching The DaVinci Code on your vcr.

No surprises here, Democrats only know how to spend tax payers money. They think all spending is good. Whatever they spend it on is suppose to (help) the folks. I fail to see the logic of spending money that you don't have but liberials think if you spend enough, then all you have to do is raise taxes and everything will be OK. It's flawed thinking and the folks know better. Vote all of them out of office next election.

Now you must defeat the typical arguments that will be brought up:

1. It's not our money (ie, county taxes)

2. If we don't get it, someone else will.

3. It's for the children!

Your time has . . . well, Oh the irony!

Its the secret government. The hidden government. The hand that rocks the check book. The secret owners of land bought at exhorbitant prices for public uses that don't make any sense.

You aren't meant to understand it.

You are supposed to think it is cooky. That way you won't realize it is true.

Just because you don't understand an anonymous comment doesn't mean it isn't true. Think before you write. Or, just THINK.

Hint: DaVinci Code was a book / movie production designed to throw us off the scent of the Freemasons agenda.

Don't be a laughing stock. Do some research.

You're nuts. Yes, fictional book and movie. Get a grip.

No new library. I will let my voice be heard in Annapolis. The rest of you please join me.
