The Vienna Bridge on Rt. 50 has been closed due to a motor vehicle accident involving a Maryland State Trooper.

We'll try to keep everyone posted as to when they'll reopen the Bridge.

From the look of the vehicles involved it's bad..real bad. I pray the Trooper is alive.

I pray no one else is involved, the last time a trooper had an accident on that bridge a civilian was killed.

Again? The Vienna bridge is where that awful accident was last winter, where a trooper got into an accident responding to a 10-car accident.

What is with this bridge and accidents.Didn't a cop just have an accident there a few months ago or year ago.I understand weather plays apart but today its perfect. That bridge gives me the weebie geebies everytime I cross it.

At least two people flown out one heading towards Baltimore one towards Salisbury.

A black and yellow life flight helicopter landed at PRMC around lunch time. I wonder if it was related.

what about the other people that were were involved......

I'd like to state that, since the last fatal accident on the Vienna bridge resulting from ice and excessive speed by a state cruiser, the troopers have resumed a practice of excessive speed when they are not in pursuit of anything. I had 2 cruiser blow by me this morning on 50. One in the Berlin area and another between Salisbury and Vienna.

They can save more lives and generate more revenue simply by putting a speed camera on Route 50.

I live in Mardela and have heard the Medivac chopter fly over twice within a half hour. I pray for all those involved.

well traveling rt 50 all the time I couldn't recall how many, probably hundreds yes hundreds of times i have had state troopers go flying by me 20, 30 even 50 miles over the speed limit! and no they are not responding to a call accross two or three counties! after what happened on the sharp town bridge last year you would think they would have gotten the message! guess not!

i would like to see the percentage of cops that are involved in accidents (inside or outside of pursuits it doesnt matter). It seems like 99% of the time I see a cop they are speeding WAY too fast, not signaling (ive never seen a cop signal why is that?), and talking on a cell phone.

Todays cops are a menace to society. I would like to live a world where I could be happy to see a cop walking on the street (HA!) or driving in his car (or on a bike if they werent such lard asses). Unfortunately we live in a world where the cops are more depraved than the supposed criminals. Power tripping, psychotic, dysfunctional, 99% of the time beat their wives.

I hope no INNOCENTS were hurt in this crash. Police are not innocent...

I wonder what it is about that bridge and MSP. They dont seem to have too much luck there.

im not saying the trooper was at fault, but this is one of the reasons they should be driving the speed limits like every other car on the road.if theyre speeding and en-route to an emergency their lights and sirens should be activated.from the looks of this accident it seems the speed was over the posted limit of 55 mph.this is the second accident in that area in less than a year i believe.even in the case of these troopeers or police officers responding to an emergency they should only be traveling 15-20 miles over the posted limit.what good are you to the public or whoever youre responding to help if youre driving recklessly endangering yourself and every other motorist around you.not to mention that if you do have an accident you will be no help to wherever youre responding and now youve caused another emergency situaution.there is no reason for every trooper i see on rt 50 and the bypass to fly by me doing 65 mph so fast that their antenna is bent dowm by the trunk and you cant even read the lettering on the vehicle becuase its all a blur!i mean whats the big rush where are they always going so fast home maybe?hell i would love to get home fast too but i do the speed limit.they recieve a very short course in the police academy for driver training.this course does not make them pro race car drivers it is suppose to train them how to operate an emergency vehicle and that does not consist of going 90-100 miles an hour.the msp needs to create a new police or crack down on their troopers not only does thier driving locally look unprofessional its unsafe and sometimes reckless.as much as locals complain about the fire dept i cant begin to imagine what people would say if they saw fire vehicles speeding around everywhere for no reason at all.

This accident was NOT on the bridge. It was at the intersection of RT 50 and 713 which is the old rt 50 about 2 miles west of the bridge.

Ken Myers is a great guy. Our prayers are with Kenny.

I hope all is ok in the car crash... I have seen many accidents by cops who were not on a call... In fact I know of a State trooper who joined the force at 23 yrs of age and no one the jpb a year has managed to destroy, YES destroy two (2) cruisers going from or to work off duty... On the other hand; this is typical becasue as most stated, ALL cops speed or break the law in some shape or form... The problem with this is, how can you have an enforcer of the law be aloud to break it as well... How hypocritical they are...

A side note:
How many accidents need to happen and cars get ruined due to negligence before they make cops use their own cars going or coming from work... I think this would help save on money due to gas usage and less cars getting ruined... I see cops use state funded gas for their personal cars and off duty cops using cruisers with family in them driving every where... cop cars should sit on the stations lot UNTIL the cop is clocked in and then when clocked out it sits...

Funny How Everyone wants to blame the MSP without knowing what truly happened....how about we all just stop speculating and pray that those involved are okay!

3:58 Got statistics for those statements. Hope you don't need to call 911 anytime soon cuz you really don't deserve a police officers help.

It would be nice if we just made comments that were supportive of all persons involved with prayers and wishes for minimal injuries and speedy recoveries.

Please don't judge, that's God's job. We simply have no idea about what happened.

Dear God, please let all involved in this horrific accident have speedy recoveries. Place your healing hands on them. Thank you for the helping hands for those that helped with this accident. A-men.

This area has many accidents, most of them from deer. This was not on the Vienna bridge.

I would guess if you knew how much the police officers are paid in this area you would know that using the police cars are a benefit that helps make up for the low wages when considering they are faced to put their lives on the line to protect idiots like you!
Prayers to all involved!

WOW look at all the stereotypical comments coming from people with NO LE experience. How do you know he wasn't going to a call? How do you know he was speeding? How do you know he was at fault? Answer- You don't!!! So why not wait until there's info avaiable to determine all that. Cops drive several thousand hours per year are bound to get into accidents every once in while.

Anonymous said...

4:57 You are wrong. There are thousands of truckers that have driven over a million miles accident free. Don't they teach LEO's evasive driving techniques?

Anonymous said...

OK tired of all the stupid comments which are placing cops above the law. The police enforce the law and the second they are placed above it they will abuse their power.

Also, according to MD state law there is no such thing as a "no fault accident". Whenever you are driving a 2-ton machine you need to be careful. If a trooper is ever in an accident, it is because he is not doing his job (to protect and serve). His whole job when he is driving around that vehicle (bought with tax money) is to PROTECT and SERVE. If he gets into an accident he has failed to do his job.

Look, it really is this simple. There is no excuse. The only way I could ever excuse an officer for getting into an accident is if he is sitting at a red light and gets rear ended, and even then I would ask why did he allow that to happen?

Stop defending cops. Cops have power and therefore they should be criticised and scrutinized.

The trooper was preparing to stop a speeding vehicle, he had all his emergency equipment activated and the other vehicle pulled out and T-Boned him. Lay off already.

Anonymous said...

Great reporting! We now know the bridge should be taken down and that the choppers fly to PRMC. Good job by all you idiots!

Anonymous said...

It's sad to see so many people making baseless statements.

Anonymous said...

He was trying to stop a speeder, not an inocent, that was going 30 over the speed limit. How are these troopers exepected to stop speeders if you people do not want them to speed to catch the speeders. Some of you engineers out there figure out what it takes for a trooper/cop to catch a speeder going 85 when the officer was going the oposite direction. He has to stop turn around and has to speed to catch the speeder.

Anonymous said...

I hope all involved are going to be ok.. looks pretty bad from the pics.

Anonymous said...

Nobody does the speed limits anymore, because they are so low. This includes the cops. Vehicle technology has improved dramatically over the years, but we still hold on to antique speed limits.

Anonymous said...

7:13 you also might factor in the LACK of use of signal lights. Over and over, the biggest offenders of failing to use turn signals that I have seen are law enforcement officers. I am not sure why. Maybe they are too preoccupied with all the multiple forms of technology at their disposal such as computers, cell phones, police radios, etc.

annonmous 2:58 , your an idiot....Lets see the facts first.

Anonymous said...

Hey! First rule: Don't kill or hurt anyone on the way to help. MSP, Sherrif, city, EMS. Don't speed. Radios can outrun a car. If you drive like a maniac, you will soon hurt or kill yourself or someone else. It is just a matter of either time or luck. You people should be the model of responsible drivers! Slow down! I almost get killed on 50 or 13 by the idiotic ambulance drivers and you can see the "victim" sitting up talking. Cops on phones, texting, riding the fast lane and no lights. Not on the way to anything just blowing the doors off other cars on the road.

Anonymous said...

Really, you spending this much time cutting down someone you don't know and placing judgment when you don't know what happened just goes to show you need serious mental help!

Just like there are many truck drivers that have never been in or caused an accident, there are many officers who are good at what they do and do not abuse it! You don't know what the case may be here! Try spending just as much time being concerned for those involved as you are spending time judging before you know the facts!

Anonymous said...

How do you know they are not on the way to anything? 97% of all calls do not require an emergency response. But more than 50% of calls require a priority response (stepped up without lights/siren

Anonymous said...

Wow I'm glad the guy who called me an idiot doesn't know the difference between your and you're. One is a contraction, idiot! Look it up, if you even know how to use a dictionary.

Anyway I'm glad so many people stepped up to say I was wrong about my assessments! That just tells me I struck a nerve and I am correct.

Oh and for all the people saying "shut up until you have the statistics"... I want to see the statistics too! That's what I said practically verbatim. I guarantee you it will be disappointing just how many of our fine (lol) servicemen are driving recklessly and getting into accidents.

But honestly though it's the officers fault. He should have been wary when he saw the car pulling out.

I was married to a cop and yes they think they are above the law. Speeding and drinking while driving are no big deal. When they are pulled over, they pull out their ID and within 30 sec are on their way again. Someone has to come down on this way of thinking. To Doug Wilkerson, you need to smarten up. Cops are out of control.
