(CNSNews.com) - The State Department has awarded 1,011 special “diversity visas” allowing Yemeni nationals to immigrate to the United States since 2000, the year 17 U.S. sailors were killed when the USS Cole was attacked by terrorists in the Yemeni port of Aden.
The "diversity visas" are designed to encourage immigration from countries that do not otherwise send significant numbers of immigrants to the United States.
The State Department roster of all countries whose nationals have received "diversity visas" to immigrate to the United States in 2010, for example, shows that 2 of these immigrants will be from Luxembourg, 3 from the Solomon Islands, 4 from French Guiana, 5 from Reunion, 6 from Cape Verde, 7 from Malta, 8 from Guinea-Bissau, 9 from Comoros, 10 from Suriname--and 72 from Yemen. Nationals of the four states listed by the State Department as state sponsors of terrorism--Cuba, Iran, Sudan, and Syria--also received "diversity visas" from the State Department to immigrate to the United States in 2010. These include 98 from Syria, 298 from Cuba, 1,084 from Sudan, and 2,773 from Iran.
That the U.S. would encourage immigration from Yemen during the past decade is of interest because of the terrorist problem in that country.

I saw Obama on the TV this morning,
he said quote"I will not tolerate this". Who the hell does he think he is , a dictator? Has he thought about the idiots he released from prison and they returned to Yemen?
Doesn't he think that maybe he is responsible for the attack on the plane the other day.His buddies he let go!
I guess what I'm trying to say is that "we as a nation will not tolerate this". That is much better isn't it. Whon the hell writes his speaches , maybe his wife?
There was a day that immigration was a good diverse thing to do for our country but times were different back then. People came to the land of opportunity to start a new life but they didn't expect handouts. We didn't give them food stamps or welfare. Indeed they had to make it on there own and that was it. They paid their taxes just like everyone else and got by with what the earned. They actually contributed to our countries former prosperity. Now people flock to the land of handouts and frankly you really can't blame them but the blame truly goes to our government. As for allowing Visas from countries that harbor terrorists is just lunacy.
Our borders and airways should have been sealed after 9-11 and nobody but Americans allowed to enter-period. Then all the muslims should have been thrown out. This commonsense solution would have eliminated the terrorism problem.
Any nation in the history of mankind that diversified FAILED !
The last 3 comments are sooooo inaccurate I don't even know where to begin.
It's just like the state department to push visas on countries who don't get a 'fair' share of immigration benefits. The DoS gives away money, equipment and services to corrupt politicians in Iraq and Afghanistan. Why not give away visas in terrorist havens?
I could care less about these countries which are funding and/or harboring terrorists (uh, Yemen has a training camp for Al Qaeda, why don't they ask us to just bomb it?). Let's not forget the USS Cole attack. Why are we trading or using that place as a port of call is beyond me. This has nothing to do with immigration. DoS is just flooding the US with people from countries we should be staying away from because that's what it does; undermines US national security.
