The City Of Salisbury Gets Safe Streets Grant

I'm popping into the Downtown Office for a brief period to share the news that Salisbury did receive the Safe Streets Grant in the amount of $156,000.00.

Mayor Ireton made the announcement in this mornings Press Conference, filled with dignitaries ranging from citizens who helped work on this grant all the way up to Congressman Frank Kratovil at the Federal level.

Mayor Ireton pledges part 1 crime will be reduced by 25%. There is a multi-agency collaboration between the SPD, MSP, WCSO, the States Attorneys Office and the 10 neighboring associations that have also pledged their support.

The funding will be used to hire a Coordinator to implement the strategies set forth under this grant. All parties working together will take back our streets and ensure that criminals realize that our citizens rights to a god quality of life will be protected, said Mayor Ireton.

"This grant announcement means that keeping our streets safe will remain a priority in these tough economic times and I'm proud to support it on behalf of the families of Salisbury," said Congressman Frank Kratovil.

Seeing all the different law enforcement agencies standing side by side supporting this grant as well as committing their efforts together to reduce crime is a breath of fresh air. Mayor Ireton stated that it was said by him 2 years ago he will do everything in his powers to make Salisbury the safest community in Maryland and this is a major step in the right direction.

Hey, how come the Mayor was looking at Frank like he was a porkchop?

Oh that's rich too!
But seriously, did you see when he walked in?
if he would have turned the corner any quicker someone would have had a broken nose

How much of 156K is going to the coordinator. Do as the rest of us Do More with Less. Give it to someone & give them a plaque & no extra pay for doing this. This is a government employees look at it.

Be sure to give credit where it is due in this Safe Streets Program. If not for Terry Cohen digging this information up the city wouldn't know anything about it. It was Terry Cohen that brought this to the table. Due to her diligence and research the crime task force thought it worth taking a look at before applying for the grant. This did not come from the mayor or Lore or Bubba, it began with Terry Cohen.

They don't need a coordinator. They need to pay the street cops extra money to do what they know how to do. The wish list that long does not leave enough for what needs to be done. Whoever wrote that grant already has the coordinator hand picked. Watch and see.

Some of you don't read. A 35% drop in violent crime in Annapolis.

There's obviously something to this.

Some of you would rather b*tch than see anything done.

Me, I'm glad Webster is out. I'm glad Salisbury gets the chance to be the next Annapolis in a crime drop.

I know we aren't there yet, but I feel better with these recent developments.

How does Kratovil find time for the tanning bed?

156k for votes?
Take the money, don't sell your vote!

You'd better offer a better local education and work on keeping the youth of Delmarva in school and off the streets. High dropout rates, another problem that needs addressing, is just the tip of the iceberg with all of the delinquent ppl around. Give these kids something to do besides crime and drugs.

the tee shirts ought to do the trick

156K...we can divert to sfd to buy something new, or get a newby repaired.

WE do not need a coordinator at all. The heads know who to do it. Combine the departments into a larger Sheriff's office and stand back and watch the crime go down.

use the 156 to work on combining, it's the only thing that will eventually do it.

We are praying for Barkley to be the permanent Chief! Salisbury Police deserves a true leader and he is by far the best choice.
