Resume:

Delaware State Police Sunday morning January 24, 2010 around 11:20 A.M. responded to 20791 Storage Lane Bridgeville, the Accretiv Commercial building for a burglary in progress complaint.

State Police were advised by the victim that he observed two trucks backed up against a building he owns. When the victim went to investigate he observed garage doors in the bed of a black truck. State Police were advised that the black truck fled the area after observing the victim. The second truck attempted to leave but decided to stop. The second truck white in color driven by Shawn Blackwell was loaded with a large quantity of scrap metal, fans, electric wire, aluminum, fluorescent lights and metal grates.

State Police through their investigation were able to identify the driver of the black truck as James Briddes of Millsboro and a third suspect Brian S. Wilson also of Millsboro.

State Police recovered the black truck involved at Briddes residence along with garage doors, galvanized metal, fan grates and a fan with a metal motor.

State Police arrested Blackwell, Briddes and Wilson on the above listed criminal offenses. Blackwell was committed on $16,000 cash bail while Briddes and Wilson were released on $15,500 unsecured bond. Blackwell was committed to Sussex Correctional Institute.

AS a victim of scrap theft, I say they need to lock `em and throw away the key!

How about confiscating their vehicles, the same way they do to drug runners?

These type of scumbags have to be dealt with harshly.

delaware again. what is it with the people in that state? geez, and to think I used to think the locals around here were dumb!

I think they were probably stealing it to get money to provide for their families. I am not saying it is ok, just that these kinds of crimes are the one the kind that we will see continue to rise until the economy begins to rise again. It's sad but true.

Poverty is no excuse for committing such crimes. The amount of damage inflicted on the property owners far, far exceeds the salvage value of the scrap metals obtained from such activity.

No, I don't buy your notion that they are simply trying to provide for their families.

Crooks are crooks, and these are crimes of opportunity, committed after the prices of commodities went up to more lucrative levels.

Truly honest folks can find ways to obtain food, and other necessities without resorting to such vandalism and property destruction.

They had plenty of money for not one but two trucks to carry the stolen loot, and the gas to run `em!

maybe they are stealing to support families, or maybe they are stealing to support drug habits. I think we need to throw the book at them to discourage the others that are thinking about doing the same thing "until the economy begins to rise".

Their looks do not betray them. They look just like the losers they are.
