Breaking News: Rt. 90 Bridge Shut Down To Vehicles Over 6,000 Pounds
Effective immediately, a restriction for vehicles over 6,000 pound gross weight is in effect for the Route 90 bridge.
The State Highway Administration's bridge inspection teams have been monitoring the MD 90 bridge over Assawoman Bay. Following SHA's inspection, the bridge has exhibited concrete deterioration necessitating repair or replacement of the affected bridge span. At this time, it is unknown how long the bridge restrictions will remain in effect.

Thanks for posting this, joe. What an awesome kid.
SALISBURY NEWS?????????????
yikes. glad i don't drive a big truck to work
Everyone should know that every single time I post something outside the City of Salisbury, JT makes the above comment like a little child. Guess what large one. MANY people who work in Salisbury LIVE in Ocean City or Ocean Pines. Go back to your loser life and ask Lore' Chambers to file for some kind of grant so you can get more toys at taxpayers expense.
Thanks Joe...I live in OC and commute to Salisbury everyday. I also have a small fishing boat and run under that bridge often....I'll be looking for falling debris during rockfish season :-)
I dont mind news from other areas- the traffic/road closing updates you post for Delaware areas are a must read for local truckers and communters, especially in the summer time.
Good call Joe, frankly there are a LOT of people in OC that check your site often.
My wife is going to be mad she has to get out and walk across the bridge. Hope there is a good place to get a coffee while I wait.
Do school buses travel on that bridge? Im not sure on the total weight but with students on it would put it near 6,000 right?
My Chevy c-3500 diesel dually is 7000 lbs empty. That means cars only, no buses.
I think we need another bridge just like it at the Rt 50 crossing!
School bus? Try 20K lbs.
Round up the illegals theres work to be done.
I live in the Bury and deliver in OC 6 days a week and did not know what was going on when i saw the signs on Rt 50 Thanks Joe now I know. Take that fat ass. Bet you on your scooter would not be to travel the bridge.

When she sees that shes going to throw you off that bridge lol
Wow. Scarey.
I do not understand why you said these things about my comment. I work in OC adn was quite seious when I said I am glad I do not drive a big truck to work. i wuld have to go on Rt 50 and that is further from my office. I am not JT and do not understand your comment.
Not only buses, how about Ambulances, Fire Trucks, and other emergency vehicles!! Delivery trucks and even some small trucks could technically go over the limit. I drive a small 4x4 pickup and it hits the scale at 5840lbs. Wow...this is gonna really suck for some people.
dogg

The timing on this is odd, that bridge isnt that old. guess they need to spend all that road/bridge stimulus money somewhere.
I traveled rt90 yesterday, going and coming in an 7500# empty F250 diesel.
Scary, this was yesterday and saw no signs or people...
I came over the 9i0 this morning and was passed on the left by two trucks that had to be over 6000 pounds.
That bridge isn't that old. And is it both bridges too or just the one from the St Martins Neck Road into Ocean City? You would think that they would deteriorate at the same rate if they were build at the same time, right? I'm right there with anon 5:20 AM, something seems fishy here...
anonymous 8:40, you're right. I can recall back in 1996 when they completely replaced the concrete on that bridge. Mind you, I believe it was the upper surface and from what I've come to learn they're saying the problems can be seen from the lower portion, especially visible by boat.
The Times stated the following "Bridges in the state highway system are inspected continuously. When serious problems are found, they're evaluated and actions are taken to maintain the safety of all vehicles at the location, the SHA said in a statement."
They (SHA) can catch this type of issue on the Route 90 bridge well in advance of any major problems; however, they let the Rt 13 overpass of Rt 50 develop a hole through it before it gets fixed?! In addition, when that boat hit the Rt 90 bridge earlier in the Summer, a full inspection was conducted immediately at that time, but they conducted an additional inspection? Why didn't they catch these things during the July inspection and if they did why did it take 3 months to react?
Like I said something seems fishy here...
I live in Ocean Pines and a sign is post right before the 90 exit. This morning is the first I noticed it.
