EXCLUSIVE Breaking News

Your Illustrious Salisbury Fire Department is now making long distance calls.

Right now YOU have 2 Fire Trucks, 1 ambulance and the HAZMAT Team at Lindsey Seafood and R&D Marine in CAMBRIDGE!

Your Tax Dollars once again hard at work. I'm pretty sure Cambridge has their own HAZMAT Team right there.

Just imagine, if you had the new $900,000.00 Fire Boat you'd have an additional 4 people making their way just in case too.

Don't jump the gun. Let them explain why they're in Cambridge. If it's a 9-alarm blaze like Dough Roller then maybe they need all hands.

Anonymous said...

If Cambridge didnt need them they would not call for them...

Anonymous said...

So where is the news at Why are they there. What is going on. What is the news??????

Mutual Aid is a noun defined as one helping or assisting another. This is common practice in the fire service. Usually between towns, cities, counties or even states.

I would rather read about the reasons why they are there and not the fact that they are there. Come on Joe give us a real story, what is going on in Cambridge?

wrench said...

joe, can you expand on this a little more.
is there an emergency there that cambridge asked for help from surrounding counties?

Anonymous said...

Just saw one SFD truck headed back home. Lots of fireman just sitting around doing nothing. Glad to see our tax dollars continue to go to great use.

Anonymous said...

lol. I love you.

How bad is the fire?

I don't give a sh!t why they're there. 2 Fire Trucks, an ambulance and a HAZMAT Team is uncalled for, period. MY TAX DOLLARS are NOT being forked out to send our Fire Trucks and MUCH NEEDED man power to Cambridge. I was on the road when I posted this article and have just returned. As for the reasons, well, time will tellbut enough is enough of this crap.

Joe,
I certainly hope that we don't ever have a fire that necesitates calling on fire departments outside of our county... with your mentality they shouldn't come to help us!

is the purpose of the fire department to help people? Think of the fire as a stone dropped in a pond, the ripples that follow are surrounding fire stations. the closest ones help, if more help is needed then they reach out farther.

I'm sure the salisbury fire department was just like "oh hey - a big fire! lets go boys!" i'm sure they were requested to come. i'm glad they did. we might need cambridge's help someday...

Anonymous said...

Okay! I need to step in for a minute. The Fire department spends hours training and they will go where needed to save a life. End of story.

Anonymous said...

And what college did you go to for your Fire Service degree?

You would need that to be such an expert in the operations of the fire service, not only Salisbury, but the whole state of Maryland.

And no, this is NOT JT, so please answer.

Anonymous said...

Straight from the Maryland Joint Operations Center... "Haz Mat teams from Dorchester and Wicomico Counties are on the scene of a haz mat spill at Intercoastal Trading at 29 Phillips Industrial Park in Cambridge. The chemical involved is Sodium Hydroxide/Caustic Soda and one patient was transported to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center Burn Unit with chemical burns. The incident was declared under control at 1214 hrs."

Let's keep in mind that hazardous materials incidents require lots of specialized equipment and trained hazmat technicians. There are not many people trained to this level in the fire service nor do many locations on the eastern shore have specialized equipment to handle this type of incident. Cambridge does have a small team but would likely not be able to handle anything of substance.

Mutual aid plans are in effect from Salisbury to also respond and assist other hazmat teams like Ocean City, Worcester and Somerset counties. Likewise, those agencies are also available to respond to Salisbury and have in the past.

When someone from another department calls for help, especially in a technical nature such as this, I would sure hope people wouldn't care where it was coming from just as long as it got brought under control and everyone went home safely.

anonymous 2:22, let me start with this you pansy boy in pink. Man up and use your name if you ever want to challenge me. Stand up like a man.

For all I know you could be at the Canton Inn typing away making comments, you have no accountability, Mr. Fake Fire Fighter in drag.

I don't have to be a colege graduate to know when someone is pissing away my money, my in Laws money OR my Friends and associates money.

Someone better have a damn good excuse for this trip Mr. Pansy, that's all I have to say. Oh, one last thing. Grow a pair and start acting like men, anonymous pansies.

I was there in Cambridge when these trucks came roaring by. There wasn't a fire as far as I could see. Most of the fireman were standing around talking in front of their trucks. I'm sure we'll find out what this was for but 90% of the trucks and fireman I saw were parked and doing NOTHING!

joealbero said...

anonymous 2:30, BULL SH!T

While I can see they had a CONDITION, it does not, nor should it EVER be in place whereas anything other than the exact Salisbury HAZMAT vehicle go to that location. 2 Fire Trucks and an Ambulance is OVERKILL! I didn't mention the Fire Chief's vehicle being there as well, did I.

I'll add, did See & Gordy express this agreement with the Council when they applied for the HAZMAT equipment? Hell No they didn't. Did they explain to the Mayor & Council that they may have to travel 30 miles to other locations to help assist other Towns with BACK UP support, HELL NO!

I don't care what anyone says, there's always a catch to their BS and quite frankly I'm sick of it. Cambridge has their own TRAINED HAZMAT TEAM and they do NOT need Salisbury by the dozens.

I was in downtown Cambridge when those historical buildings caught on fire recently. It was a big fire, with lots of potential for major structural damage and even more property could have been lost. There were fire departments across Dorcester and Talbot counties there, and when they first arrived, there was no doubt that they were needed. Yes, a bunch of people were lollygagging near the end, but logistically it takes a while to clear out all of the equipment and it's better that people stick around a little longer in case something happens, then to make them come back (can you say lawsuit for sending them home early?).

In Cambridge history, you also have the big butter fire which melted steel, and I believe that a good section of Cambridge got torched in some race riots. These situations could possibly have involved aid from Salisbury, too.

Do not jump the gun on this fire. It could be totally necessary to receive aid from Salisbury. The day will come when a huge tragedy hits Salisbury and I'm sure that we will need their help, too. When that day comes, you'll be grateful to see Cambridge helping us out instead of having a Cambridge resident keeping them from coming to our aid.

If anything seems odd, you would think that some crews from Salisbury would be transferred to a VFC closer to Cambridge to assist with coverage, since they could get to the fire first.

Regardless, let's see how the facts present themselves before making any bad conclusions.

I was the one who notified Joe about Salisbury Fire dept. being in Cambridge, MD. I happened to be sitting at WaWa when the Salisbury Fire Chief comes flying by with lights on and turns into the R&D Boat & Marine. Then the HAZMAT truck came followed by 2 firetrucks as well as ambulance. All from Salisbury. There was no fire, no accident, nothing to the eye that warranted for us to be there. Especially when Cambridge VFD was there. We got as close as they would allow, and the most we could see was both VFD lounging against the firetrucks. So, if Salisbury has to come to Cambridge on the tax payer's dollars, for God knows what, and to the public eye is doing absolutely nothing but standing around, damm right we should be pissed!!

John S. said...

Joe-

You would be the first to bitch if there was a huge fire in Salisbury, say downtown, where you building was at risk of catching fire, and Cambridge was called in and they said NO. Suck it up..there was an issue that could have been big. Better to be safe than sorry.

Anonymous said...

Joe, you are not an expert on fires or the duties of the Fire Department. Just because you pay your taxes, that doesn't give you the right to tell the Fire Department what is, and what isn't, an emergency. Nor does it give you a right to set procedure. You pay your property taxes, thanks for that, but you don't vote here. Keep barking at the politicians, but don't criticize the firemen for doing their jobs.

joe you live in delmar so your tax dollars dont effect sfd.

They over react because the whole matter is a social club. The atmosphere is a club. They high five and get excited just to take the ride out to Cambridge while wearing their gear.

It really is quite gay.

By the way Folks, I have rejected probably 50 comment on this post alone. These Firefighters are about the most immature group of children who cannot spell and use language not fit for a drunken sailor. Oh, better be careful because these guys in pink may like that phrase.

The real men use their real name. How's those bunks, bunkies???? Two Snaps Up in Firemen Formation. All is fun fella's, I mean, guys, I mean, men. Awe shucks, you know what I mean anonymousissies.

Perhaps additional HAZMAT crew on site reduced the chance of injury for all involved while dealing with a very dangerous situation. Your thoughts?

Joe , You have to start lighting these fires! lol You sure know how to get people going ! GREAT JOB

Anonymous said...

Joe,
Why are you so totally judgemental towards the fire department? You don't even get all the facts before you are screaming and yelling about your tax dollars. Salisbury was asked to respond to Cambridge by the Cambridge Fire Department. They would not have asked for help if it was not badly needed. Should there be a major event in Salisbury, other departments would be called in from various counties and they would respond willingly. It's called coming to the assistance of fellow man. There have been major fire events in Salisbury when departments as far as Ocean City responded to assist. There are people working and volunteering within the Salisbury Fire Department who are genuinely real with the intent to help the community. I pay taxes too and if my taxes help someone who is in need then so be it.

Joe, how about this tough guy? I've asked you to meet and discuss our differences on 4 different occasions. I gave you my location to meet in a public place, what I was driving, what I was wearing, and no response.

And you don't pay property taxes here, you are delinquent in those according to the state's website.

Want to try again, big boy from the Bronx? I hope someone murders you and your worthless family. And I hope your mother suffers a painful death for spreading her legs and receiving that poison seed she named Joe.

Wow... immature much? You're overreacting way to much Albero.

And p.s. you say your buildings are insured - but how many times have people relied on insurance just to be let down?

I am sure Blalock regrets sending the comment. Perhaps Joe will be so kind as to remove it? Come on Blalock, you know you went too far. Ask him to delete it.

This is about money. It is not about life and death.

Joe, you've posted the facts and people still don't see it. If Salisbury sent one Hazmat truck to help I could see that...maybe! But to send 2 Fire Trucks, the Chief, and an ambulance? Sounds like a joyride to me. I was at the scene, I took the pictures.

My concern is what if SALISBURY had a real emergency while OUR firefighters were off in Cambridge helping out with the 5 gallons of hazardous material! Some of the blame needs to go to Cambridge too for over-reacting and calling in SFD.

I'm all for helping out your neighbor in a REAL emergency, but this is nonsense. Way to much of our tax dollars and resources tied up for a MINOR incident, leaving our city under-protected.

Salisbury has a standard response of equipment and manpower that responds to this type of incident. This type of incident could require a large number of personnel with specialized training. If we are called we will answer the call for whatever the need. You can be sure that Cambridge would do the same. This type of call can be far more dangerous than you might believe Joe. They present an interesting list of challenges that could kill or injure firefighters and Medical workers. Along with that comes a long list of government regulations and procedures that we must follow. This accounts for the number of personnel and equipment. The one really good thing about these calls are that we can bill the responsible party. The cost of our services are reimbursed to the City. You cant say that about fires many times. I hope this clears up the confusion about the equipment we send.

Please excuse the ignorant rantings of SFD J. Blalock. To my knowledge there is no member of Salisbury by that name. This is just another ignorant low life trying to stir the pot at our expense. I know that there are SFD members who do not agree with Joe, but I dont believe any real men would make these statements. Do us a favor J. Blalock. Drop the SFD and use your real name.
