NFL Reinstates Michael Vick On Conditional Basis

(CNN) -- Nearly two years after he pleaded guilty to a federal charge of bankrolling a dogfighting operation at a home he owned in Virginia, Michael Vick was reinstated to the National Football League on a conditional basis, according to an NFL statement Monday.

Michael Vick will be considered for full reinstatement based on his progress by the sixth week.

1 of 2 Vick "will be considered for full reinstatement and to play in regular-season games by Week 6 based on the progress he makes in his transition plan," the statement said. Week 6 of the NFL season is in October.

Vick may participate in practices, workouts and meetings and may play in his club's final two preseason games under the conditions of his reinstatement, the league said.

Vick, in a statement, thanked the league's commissioner and former Indianapolis Colts coach Tony Dungy, who has served as his mentor.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Commissioner [Roger] Goodell for allowing me to be readmitted to the National Football League," Vick said in a statement. "I fully understand that playing football in the NFL is a privilege, not a right, and I am truly thankful for the opportunity I have been given."

Vick being allowed to play football again in the NFL is a disgrace!

What exactly is he having to do better? Does he have to pet every dog he encounters? Does he have to do community service at animal shelters? It doesn't seem to me that he as a criminal did anything related to the NFL, so how would the NFL be able to judge if he is not a criminal anymore? He did his time. If he was a garbage man or computer programmer he would be allowed to go back to a similar profession within reason. Michael Vick is a football player and not just anyone can do what he does. This was just the dumbest thing I've ever heard until 8:25am responded.

I hope he gets his leg broke like Joe Theisman. Where's Lawrence Taylor?

Sports and Congress - seems to me they attract the same type of people, and neither one are worth a damn.

Tim, In comparison that like saying I hope someone chokes on your food!

Shouldn't he still be in jail?? He should be cleaning dog doo at the nearest animal shelter for life.

C'mon people. He did his time. Michael Vick was once a great football player. I remember watching him play at VT when my cousin was there. I don't condone what he has done. I'm an animal lover at heart. He has done his time and paid his debt. It's not like he was accused of killing someone like a particular Ravens player who's still playing.

I think he should play for the Browns in the Dog Pound.

Whoa, Tim! Don't bring Joe Theisman into this one!

I've been a Skins fan all my life and if Snyder picks up Vick, he will lose one of his team's biggest fans! Not to mention the thousands of dollars I spend every year for my 4 season tickets to every home game! Vick is NOT a great quarterback-he was technically a running back when he did play. Go google some dog fight pictures and you'll lose all respect for this heartless bastard! There's a pitbull in hell waiting to tear into his ass!

Who said crime does not pay? He needed the rest. He had time to healed and work out for two years. Watch he will have a serious injury in his first year back.

So now the NFL is basically sending the message to kids that it is ok to do something illegal. How many times of someone testing positive for drugs does it take before they ban them from the sport? So basically the NFL condemns drugs, but staging dog fights til they die is ok. Shame on the NFL for allowing him back in. He may have paid his time, but he will never be ok in my book.

Why, I didn't support elderly kick boxing?

If rapists, murderers, drug dealers and users, and general scum can be allowed to play games and make millios of dollars, why not allow someone who actually sreved his time, seems genuinley repentant, and ready to atone?

Glass houses, people.

That comment I admit was over the top, I wish him no ill. However I do hope that no NFL team will pick him up, let him play in Canada if they will have him.

Oops, he's still on probation isn't he, can he leave the country?

I dropped baseball like a bad habit after the strike of 1994. If the Eagles pick him up I'll be done with football too!

I'd rather see them be in last place without him rather than a Superbowl win with him, and that's the truth.

He commited a crime and wen to jail for it. He should be allowed to re enter the NFL. He is being suspended or as they say...conditionally reinstated for 6 games by the NFL. Done deal. Peolp who have a problem with that should just not watch. And while we are at it, lets let Pete Rose back in too, 30 years is enough.

So,really, why should this scum?

If he hadn't been caught he'd still be at it, the only thing Vicks is sorry for is that he got caught. Let him earn a living like the rest of us

I am done with NFL Football and hope a lot of you stop watching it also to send a message.

These athletes are given the world and do not deserve a second chance. You cannot take the jungle out of the animals.
