Dr. Frederickson, (WCBOE) Warns Citizens

Apparently there are some people going around trying to solicit books for sale and saying they're working with with the Board of Education. Dr. Frederickson is informing everyone that they have no affiliation with them whatsoever and to call the Police immediately.

The gentleman that came to our house did not state that he was affiliated with the Board of Ed. It is a legitimate book company. I checked out the book website and even called the company to verify that he was a licensed seller of the books. It is a summer internship where college students receive credits in exchange for selling books. Has anyone else had someone come to their house??

A very nice young man visited our neighborhood in Fruitland. He did not mention the Board of Education. He said he was an education major trying to earn extra monies for college. He had many books geared to our young readers.

No one has come to my house, but I'm wondering which phone call I'll get from Dr Fredrickson-the extended horrible Spanish translation followed by English or just the Spanish....followed by another message in Spanish, then some unknown unfamiliar language-Korean?????

If anyone believes students are earning college credits for selling books, I have some nice swampland in Bivalve for sale. Not even Capella or University of Phoenix resorts to these shenanigans.

He also came by my house. I also verified that it is a legitimate company and he does have a license to sell the books. He mentioned that he had Wicomico County as his territory and would be visiting families with children entering elementary school. My concern was where did he get the list of all the families in my area that had kids entering elementary school.

The fact is that there are frauds out there, and you put your family and yourself at risk when you let these individuals into your home. Be careful, and if you need books that bad just order them online.

Same here,he didn't say he was doing it for Wic. Co. I think he said he was from Co.? We listened to his speal, showed us a 4 page list of all the families he visited, ask if we knew any of them, blah, blah, blah. What got me was in the end when we told him we want to research it before buying,he couldn't give us a web site to visit! I also wondered why a lot of people have placed orders (or so he said)w/o doing research first! WHY would you give someone $300.00+ dollars w/o knowing if they are a ligament company, specially when you are hearing all the time about scams?

He visitied our area couple weeks ago and I saw him again in Hebron last week. He said he was from University of Arizona doing summer internship to get credits for college and we could prepay all or some and he would return in August with books. He ask questions about other families living near us and we wouldn't give him any names etc. he seemed flustered. He gave us names of teachers from the school who had purchased these books (396 thru highschool years or 496 thru college). He was going to leave card with all information. When we told him we weren't interested he yanked book out of our childs hands and speed off. Seemed like a SCAM to me.
