Do You Save Fuel When You Slow Down?

With gas prices rising, gas-saving advice abounds: Drive more gently, don't carry extra stuff in your trunk, combine your shopping trips.

This is all sound advice but there's one driving tip that will probably save you more gas than all the others, especially if you spend a lot of time on the highway: Slow down.

In a typical family sedan, every 10 miles per hour you drive over 60 is like the price of gasoline going up about 54 cents a gallon.

Even better than saving $10 on a 400 mile trip, how about just stop racing from stoplight to stoplight and just let off the gas when you are approaching a red, yellow or a long green light (it'll be red when you get to it) and apply the brakes only to slow down or stop completely will save more gas too.

My husband and I both have been driving only 55 out on Rt. 13 every day back and forth to work.
Our gas mileage in both vehicles increased by 5+ m.p.g.

Saving fuel by slowing down? Who thought of this?

If I slow down I will be driving longer. If I drive longer, I will use more fuel.
