Royal Farms Finally Open
Yesterday the long awaited Royal Farms just west of the Bypass on Rt. 50 has finally opened. Looks like the Gordy Tiger Mart will have some serious competition.
Looks like Bubba decided to make a little money on the side, so they stuck him out there with his arms up. Who painted him blue? Gotta admit, it's a big improvement.
Now if they can just get him to keep his mouth shut.
The Valero and Exxon stations just west of this new gas station/convenience store should simply sell or shutter their doors and windows. This Royal Farms store being the first gas station/store motorists hit when they get off the bypass will be a major hit for those other two businesses. Besides the fact the Royal Farm is a newer, nicer, cleaner and brighter facility, the other two can't compete with Royal Farms' deli food, including their broasted chicken, nor will they be able to compete on gas prices. The only plus I see for the other two stations is because of the means vehicles have to enter the Royal Farms store (having to make a right from Rt. 50 onto a two lane road and then turn into the parking lot), I can see a log jam come summer time, especially with cars trying to get back onto Rt. 50after conductin their business at the Royal Farm. Some motorists only needing gas will bypass the congestion and go up to the Valero or Exxon instead.
Just another example of this area giving their constant support to corporate chains and letting the hard-working middle-class private business owner struggle. Just the start-up costs to open this store (the real estate and building alone) are more than any private business owner could ever even consider. Do you think the owners of sam's club, wawa, and royal farms care about you? Salisbury, keep on making the millionaires and billionaires more money while your peers get their houses forclosed on.
Yeah, they do care about me, by delivering a good product at an affordable price. Maybe I should go to another store owned by immigrants who wire most of their money out of the country, and don't keep it clean. These stores hire locals to work in them, so they create jobs. Not great jobs, but jobs. These days it is nice to see something open instead of closing.
Rob S., locally owned and operated businesses can offer something that most corporate box stores don't: real customer service. Sadly, most don't and it seems they will never grasp that concept. So all things being equal, if the nationally owned business offers a better price on the same product, guess who's getting the business?
It's their first day open, natually they will have lower prices for a short time! Give it awhile and it will look like all the other Royal Farms in the Salisbury area.
I don't have a problem with Royal Farms store. I like Royal Farms. The problem I have (or will in the future) is that the area will look like US 13 in the future, and then they'll have to build another bypass for the bypass.
